Why Manchester United should definitely beat Chelsea to sign Mehdi Benatia
According to the Sun, Manchester United have been linked with a move for Juventus defender Mehdi Benatia. The Moroccan centre-back has barely featured for the Old Lady this season and was not a part of the line-up that came up against Manchester United in the Champions League.
Given Man United’s problems in central defence, Benatia would be an ideal option since he is experienced at the highest level. The Moroccan has been kept out of the side this season due to the presence of Giorgio Chiellini, Daniele Rugani and Leonardo Bonucci.
The Moroccan centre-back has made just 5 Serie A appearances and 1 Champions League appearance under Massimiliano Allegri this season. United should definitely consider making a move for the 31-year-old given his vast experience and ability to play out from the back. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)
Manchester United have lacked a leader in their defence this season and they will get that in Benatia. The Juventus defender loves to command and control the backline throughout the game.
He is tall, strong, agile and quick. The 31-year-old is also very good when playing out the ball from the back, often driving forward to pick a long pass or support the attack up front.

He is a diligent defender who rarely puts a foot wrong at the back and possesses the right qualities that will help him flourish under Jose Mourinho. The centre-back is also a very good reader of the game and loves cutting out the passing lanes, something the Manchester United defenders have lacked this season.
Benatia has also won an average of 3 successful aerial duels in the Serie A this season and is very strong in the air. He should be able to eradicate all the aerial issues United have faced this season.
