Man United offering their world-class superstar a new deal is an absolute no-brainer and Solskjaer must do it

Man United offering Paul Pogba a new deal is a no-brainer

According to the Mirror, Man United are weighing up the option of tying Paul Pogba down to a new contract at Old Trafford, with the midfielder’s current deal set to expire in the summer of 2021.

Mirror understands that United vice-chairman Ed Woodward has already made contact with Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola to negotiate a new contract with the midfielder, who seemed to have his heart set on a dream move to Real Madrid earlier in the summer.

The speculation surrounding Pogba’s future at Old Trafford was one of the burning issues that constantly grabbed the headlines in the British tabloids over the entire summer window, with the World Cup winner making it clear time and again that he wants a way out of Old Trafford.

However, after Real Madrid failed to firm up their initial interest in the Frenchman, Pogba finds himself stuck in limbo at Old Trafford. For the time being, however, he has little choice than to just stay put at United and concentrate on doing his best for the remainder of the season.

It is unclear as to whether United would have let him go this summer had there been a suitable offer put forward by Real Madrid but in a complete U-turn of events, Pogba might as well have a long-term future in English football, with the Red Devils weighing up a fresh contract for the Frenchman.

Pogba, who returned to Man United for a second stint from Juventus back in the summer of 2016, hasn’t quite justified the staggering £89m that the Red Devils paid to bring him back to the club but he continues to be one of the mainstays of the first-team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Apart from his obvious quality on the pitch, the 26-year-old is certainly one of United’s most marketable assets, meaning that Pogba’s potential departure in the future is likely to hit the club hard for a number of reasons.

Going by the numbers, his tally of 16 goals and 11 assists in all competitions in the 2018-19 season was the highest that he has ever managed in his professional career until now.

We all know that Pogba has this bad-boy image and his performances are always scrutinised in-depth by the media but he apparently has the numbers to silence his critics.

And, a new deal for him at Old Trafford could go a long way towards pouring cold water on all the speculation surrounding his future.

Given his talent, it is easy to figure out that the Red Devils currently do not have anyone in their ranks who might possibly offer the same range of qualities.

Hence, it is a no-brainer that the Frenchman still has a big part to play, and his presence could be a make-or-break factor for the club in the foreseeable future, as Solskjaer continues his rebuilding job at Old Trafford.

Nemanja Matic and Fred have both been overlooked by Solskjaer in the opening stages of the ongoing campaign and Pogba is arguably the only experienced and established head who seems to fit into the manager’s plans.

He is the sort of player around whom the manager should be looking to build his team and a new deal would, indeed, make perfect sense.

Interestingly, though, it remains to be seen whether Pogba is open to the prospect of staying at United for the longer term.
