Manchester United Opinion: Why Stefano Sensi will be a good fit for United?

According to a report from Calciomercato, AC Milan are plotting a €25m summer move for Sassuolo midfielder Stefano Sensi.

AC Milan were keen on signing Stefano Sensi in January but Sassuolo blocked the move since the midfielder is such a crucial cog of the team.

The Italian, 23, has played 18 Serie A games so far this campaign, scoring a goal and supplying two assists. Keeping the impressive performances in mind, Manchester United should rival AC Milan for his signature in the summer.

With 51 points in 26 outing, Manchester United currently sit fourth in the table, a spot above Arsenal who have 50 points with the same number of matches.

Interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has turned around United’s fortunes since replacing Jose Mourinho in December, winning 25 points out a possible 27 in the Premier League.

The Red Devils also overturned its 0-2 loss against Paris Saint-Germain- its first defeat under Solskjaer-in Champions League by defeating Chelsea by the same margin in the FA Cup 5th round.

Even though the Norwegian tactician has worked wonders in the three months he has been at the helm of the club, United remain miles behind from the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

To challenge for the title next season, the Reds should not only spend heavily but wisely by targeting the right players. Although shoring up the defence has to be the club’s no.1 priority, Solskjaer, who has done a solid dress rehearsal for the full-time job so far, should attempt to reinforce the midfield as well.

In Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera, United boast of one of the strongest midfield units in the Premier League. But beyond the trio, there is less depth and experience in the squad. Fred has failed to make an impression since signing from Shakhtar Donetsk last summer, while Marouane Fellaini left the club for China in January.

Andreas Pereira and Scott McTominay have managed only 15 Premier League games between them this season, which tells they are still some way behind to challenge the likes of Pogba, Herrera and Matic for a place in the starting XI.

That makes it very important for United to bolster their options in the midfield and they must go all out for Stefano Sensi.

Sensi has shown an incredible amount of promise in the past two seasons at Sassuolo. The diminutive Italian’s vision, passing range and balance are admirable, making him a carbon-copy of PSG’s midfield ‘regista’ Marco Verratti.

Not only is he gifted with tremendous vision and ability to pick a pass but also with a fine defensive instinct off the ball as well.
