Man United should push for this lacklustre 29-year-old’s exit right now instead of waiting for next season

Why the time is right for Manchester United to sell Darmian?

Manchester United started their season extremely well with a 4-0 win over Chelsea.

The Red Devils were clinical in the final third and took their chances while the visitors were left to rue their missed opportunities.

This was a newlook United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka starring at the back.

Matteo Darmian

Romelu Lukaku was sold to Inter Milan prior to the game, but that didn’t seem to matter as the Blues were brushed aside.

United can’t make any additions to the team this summer unless it is a free transfer, but they can sell to foreign clubs.

One player being linked with a move away is Matteo Darmian. The Sun claims that the Italian is a target for Inter and the Serie A giants will swoop in for him next summer when he is a free agent.

However, United have to offload the 29-year-old this summer.

United have quality options now in the position

Wan-Bissaka was possibly the best right-back in the Premier League last season when it came to defensive duties and he showed that once again in the win over Chelsea.

The former Crystal Palace defender looked like a natural playing for the Red Devils and he should improve further in the coming years.

The Red Devils have Diogo Dalot and Ashley Young as cover for Wan-Bissaka, so holding on to Darmian doesn’t really make a lot of sense.

The 29-year-old has also attracted interest from Juventus (h/t Sun) and even if they don’t get top dollar for the Italian a deal should be completed soon.

Keeping the 29-year-old will only eat into the wages at the club and they will lose out on some money if Darmian leaves on a free.

The Italian played just seven times for the Red Devils in the previous season, and it is unlikely he will feature much after the arrival of Wan-Bissaka.

Verdict

United might have one of the biggest transfer funds in the Premier League but they need to make sound deals too.

Keeping Darmian for another 10 months just doesn’t make financial sense, and they need to sell him soon.
