Man United splashing £90m on this teenage star would turn them into title contenders next season

Why Manchester United should sign Jadon Sancho in the summer

According to a report in the Sun, Premier League giants Manchester United are considering a sensational summer swoop for winger Jadon Sancho. The Old Trafford hierarchy is keeping a close eye on the young sensation, who is shining in Bundesliga since leaving Manchester City in 2017.

As per the report (h/t Metro), the Red Devils are already planning on a spending spree in the upcoming summer transfer window, and Sancho is a player they would love to bring in. Dortmund have no intention of letting go of this incredible talent on the cheap and are understood to have slapped a price tag of £90m on the 18-year-old.

But, it looks like United can afford to pay that much considering they didn’t spend anything during the recently concluded January transfer window.

Here’s why the Red Devils should do everything to bring the 18-year-old winger to Old Trafford in the summer:

Sancho’s arrival will sharpen United’s attack to another level

Predominantly a right winger, Jadon Sancho can play on the other wing, and as an attacking midfielder. He possesses the pace that is too quick for the defenders to handle. The 18-year-old has all the tricks in the book to bamboozle players trying to stop in the wide areas.

In 19 Bundesliga appearances this season (seven of them from the bench), the Englishman has scored 6 goals and supplied 9 assists, winning three Man of the Match awards in the process; not bad for a player who was supposed to be just a prospect.

He has dribbled past defenders at a rate of 2.8 per game and provided key passes at an average of 1.8. His passing is close to 85% as well, which just shows how good he is when it comes to creating chances from the wide areas for the forward runners in the box. (Whoscored.com)

Manchester United effectively do not have a right winger of a type they require in terms of natural ability. Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard have played in that position on a few occasions, but it is pretty clear their favoured position is elsewhere.

Hence, it would make sense to buy a right winger who is a hot property in European football at the moment, and he is English.

With Anthony Martial, Rashford, Alexis Sanchez, and Lingard already in the ranks, United’s attack would get sharpened to another level if they sign Sancho in the summer window. For sure they will be title contenders with that kind of pace and directness in their front-line.
