Man United taking reputed pundit’s advice to sign in-form PL star would be a masterstroke

Why Jack Grealish would be a brilliant signing for Manchester United

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has been speaking highly of Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish, and suggested he is exactly the sort of player needed at Manchester United. (h/t BBC)

Jack Grealish, 24, scored a brilliant goal in the 11th minute, bending the ball past David de Gea from a tight angle into the top corner to send the away fans into delirium. In fact, he was fouled eight times in the game as the Red Devils struggled to keep him at bay. He was excellent on Sunday, helping Aston Villa claim a deserved point at Old Trafford.

The 24-year-old produced another top display that has characterised his return to the Premier League following promotion from the Championship. Interestingly, Grealish has been linked with a move to Manchester United, as reported by ESPN. That being said, should United listen to Crooks’ suggestion and make a move for the Villa skipper?

Ninth in the table and closer to the relegation places than the top four, these are nervous times for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian’s plan is clear, and it is no accident that United have the youngest average starting XI in the Premier League at just over 25, but there is no getting away from the fact that results are not good enough.

The Red Devils lack quality in various areas of the pitch and as per ESPN, Solskjaer is looking to strengthen his midfield in January following the exit of Ander Herrera. Plus, injuries to Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic have left United brittle in midfield, forcing Solskjaer to play Andreas Pereira in central midfield alongside Fred.

A quality midfielder is definitely needed and Jack Grealish would be a brilliant fit at Old Trafford. Grealish had an excellent game against United, as he scored an unbelievable goal and stood head and shoulders above the rest on the field on Sunday.

As per WhoScored.com, the 24-year-old took three shots, played one key pass, had a pass accuracy of 88.6%, took 59 touches and made one tackle.

More Manchester United News:

There is a lot of room for improvement as far as United’s midfield is concerned. Grealish, who can also play out wide, could provide the flair and creativity which Solskjaer’s have often lacked in the final third this season.

The Birmingham-born star would also be an upgrade on struggling attackers like Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata in United’s midfield.

Verdict

Grealish is a very good player and has the potential to be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. Given United’s lack of quality as well as depth in midfield, Solskjaer should go all out to sign the 24-year-old in the New Year, particularly after seeing the Villa skipper put in a Man of the Match display at Old Trafford.
