Man United would strike gold by replacing Sanchez with this prodigious 17-year-old academy gem – Agreed?

Why Manchester United should allow Mason Greenwood to replace Alexis Sanchez

According to a report in the Telegraph, Alexis Sanchez is close to leaving Manchester United for Inter Milan to reunite with former teammate Romelu Lukaku. The Chilean has had a torrid time since his move from Arsenal to Manchester United in the 2018 January transfer window.

Sanchez was part of a high-profile swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and it seems that neither club really benefited from the deal.

Sanchez still featured heavily under Jose Mourinho but had to be taken out of the squad due to injuries. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s arrival has seen him become a peripheral figure and with Lukaku’s departure, it looks like options up front are looking quite short.

But this doesn’t seem to bother Manchester United fans and their manager as he seems keen on using players from the academy, as was witnessed in pre-season.

One such talent from the Manchester United’s prestigious academy is 17-year-old Mason Greenwood. Greenwood joined the academy at the age of 6 and is simply put a phenomenal talent.

He made his first appearance for the Red Devils in their historic win against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 and was the best player in their final game of last season against Cardiff City.

Greenwood is an extremely versatile player as he can play on either flank, as a 10 or as a classic number 9. He is a fantastic dribbler, passer and is equally good with both feet. His ability with both feet makes him a nightmare to defend against as he’s a very clean striker of the ball.

He’s also got quite a big frame for a 17-year-old, which suggests that he’s ready for men’s football. United need big seasons from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, who, despite being very young, have had a lot of experience.

Greenwood is seen as more of a natural finisher than both of them and in a few year’s time could be seen as the next big talent for England and Manchester United.

Greenwood’s fantastic pre-season will make certain that he starts a lot of games this season. A lot has been made of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez’s departure but Romelu Lukaku scored under 30 league goals in his two seasons at the club despite having a lot of playing time.

Conclusion

Sanchez couldn’t even manage 10 league goals in his time at the club and Greenwood, with his extraordinary talents should have no trouble replacing their goals and would provide more guile, craft and speed than the two of them.
