Why Manchester United should attempt to sign Barcelona’s Malcom
Manchester United were well beaten by Liverpool last weekend as Jose Mourinho’s wretched start to the season continued. The Red Devils are way outside the top four at the moment and are currently languishing at 6th place on the table.
Mourinho came under increasing criticism this season due to his pragmatic approach in games. United have also barely looked like the defensively solid side that they were last season. The Old Trafford side have conceded a total of 29 goals in 17 games this season, while managing to score the same tally.
They have been very shaky at the back and utterly poor going forward as well. Many of their top stars have also underperformed up until this point. Big signings like Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez have all had mixed fortunes this season and the overall atmosphere at Old Trafford is very nervy at the moment.
Surely Solskjaer should dive into the market in January and focus on bolstering the squad. They have lacked firepower going forward and the manager should prioritise an attacker. Manchester United should take a look at Barcelona winger Malcom.
According to the AS, Malcom has received big offers from Chinese clubs over the last few weeks. After making a £36.5million move from Bordeaux in the summer, the Brazilian has failed to hit the heights at the Camp Nou.
He looked bright and very lively during pre-season but the 21-year-old has managed just 1 start under Ernesto Valverde this season. Injuries and inconsistency have seen him turn into a fringe player in the squad.
Manchester United could definitely do with someone of Malcom’s calibre. He is capable of playing a wide number of roles up front and will surely provide the Red Devils with an added sense of threat in the final third as well.
Malcom can effortlessly run at defenders and create space for his teammates. This should see the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford receive enough freedom to make their runs. He can play through the middle or on the flanks, and thrives in both positions.
Cutting in from the wings, Malcom is very difficult to stop when he gets going. He is also a pure goalscorer and a clinical finisher in front of the goal. The Brazilian also scored a number of long-range goals for former club Bordeaux last season.
Manchester United should certainly make the move for the Barcelona star in January. They are in dire need of some fresh quality in their squad and the arrival of Malcom should see their burden get relieved. Solskjaer must get the Brazilian in January.
