Man Utd signing this dazzling 19-year-old Man City target would be a massive statement of intent

Why Manchester United should go all out to sign Hakon Evjen in January

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Manchester City will look to sign FK Bodo/Glimt starlet Hakon Evjen during the January transfer window. Manchester United are also believed to be interested in the Norwegian youngster, whose dazzling displays have generated interest across Europe.

Hakon Evjen, 19, has emerged at one of Europe’s top young talents. He has scored nine goals and made four assists in 19 games this season as FK Bodo/Glimt currently leading the country’s top-flight. The teenager has scored five league goals in his last six games.

Currently a member of Norway’s Under-20 side, the creative midfielder has also represented his country at U17 and U18 level. The report claims Hakon Evjen has been scouted by Manchester United and Manchester City in recent months.

Regardless of City planning to sign the 19-year-old in January, Manchester United must beat their cross-town rivals to his signature.

United haven’t made the best start to the new Premier League season. After beating Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford in their opening league fixture, things have gone downhill for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

A 1-1 draw with Wolves followed, before an embarrassing 2-1 defeat at home to Crystal Palace. On Saturday, they failed to bounce back, drawing 1-1 with 10-man Southampton at St. Mary’s.

Of course, it’s not worth getting too concerned yet, considering there are still 34 Premier League games and nine months of the season to go. But one thing Solskjaer has proven he is ready to put faith in youth with summer signing Daniel James already having made a stellar impact in such a short time span, scoring three goals in four games.

After years of poor recruitment and disorganised planning post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, Solskjaer wants to rebuild the club by bringing in young, hungry and fresh talents at Old Trafford.

That has seen the United manager has also offload stars like Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez this summer, freeing up spaces for academy stars Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes to make an impression and nail down a place in the starting XI.

Thus, a switch to United might appeal to Evjen, with fellow Norwegian Solskjaer in charge at Old Trafford.

The teenager, who can also play in central midfield, could be a long-term solution to United’s right-wing woes. A direct and very quick winger, he is someone who loves getting into attacking positions, which he has showcased on more than one occasion this season.

The Norwegian puts his pace and agility to great use, and that combined with his exceptional ball control and movement makes him such a difficult player to mark. Evjen is exactly the type of talent United want at the moment, someone who Solskjaer can develop into a world-beater.

Verdict

Daniel James has been a huge success since his summer move to United and a talent like Evjen could have a similar impact if he’s given the chance to shine. Hence, the Red Devils must do everything possible to bring the young Norwegian to Old Trafford in January.
