Man Utd winning the race to sign this 17-goal star would be a crucial move to restore glory days – Agreed?

Manchester United Opinion: Why the Reds should sign Donny van de Beek?

According to a report from the Sun, Manchester United are one among the host of European clubs interested in signing Ajax star, Donny van de Beek.

Donny van de Beek’s future has been under the microscope since his breakout season with Ajax last term. The Netherlands international was part of Ajax’s double-winning season in which they also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

He managed to bag an impressive 17 goals and 13 assists from midfield last term, as his performances contributed significantly to the club’s overall success.

Manchester United have managed to make only two signings so far this summer, with Daniel James and Aaron Wan-Bissaka arriving at Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad still isn’t up to the quality to challenge the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City for the title next season.

If the Red Devils are serious about adding further players, then they better get a move on, as the transfer deadline for English clubs is August 8th, which means the club have just 12 days in their hands.

United are in need of more options in central midfield following the departure of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini this year.

The likes of Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira could play bigger roles this season, but Solskjaer needs more quality and depth in the squad to challenge for trophies next season. With that in mind, the Reds must do everything to their powers to win the race for Donny van de Beek’s signature.

De Beek would fit the bill in terms of what Solskjaer has been looking for this summer as seen in the signings of James and Wan-Bissaka thus far, and that is talented, hungrier young players to build a new cycle with. The Dutchman should be more of an answer to United’s attacking problems than their midfield issues.

He is a versatile midfielder but the Ajax star is at his sublime best when deployed in the no.10 role, which allows him to become more expressive with his offensive forays while enabling him to combine with midfielders in deeper areas. De Beek is technically excellent and has the ability to receive the ball in tight areas, before using his wonderful vision to pick out a pass.

The Dutchman’s creativity and guile in the middle of the park would be a real asset for Solskjaer’s side, whilst his perfectly timed runs into the opposition’s penalty box would give them another threat in the final third.

The 22-year-old’s composure when in possession and knack for scoring goals would make him a very useful player for United to sign, and one that is certainly capable of combining extremely well with the likes of Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Daniel James in their starting XI.

Verdict

If Solskjaer does manage to bring De Beek to Old Trafford, it could turn out to be a fantastic piece of business from Manchester United.
