Arsenal attacker Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has emerged as a new target for Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. The Gunners have a reputation for selling their stars to top rivals over the past few years. A few names include Emmanual Adebayor, Robin Van Persie, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna.
And the club that benefit from Arsenal selling their players have returned to pursue their interest in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Manchester City are ready to test Arsenal’s resolve with a £25 million offer for the English winger.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is said to be “furious” over the pursuit of the midfielder, having made it clear Oxlade-Chamberlain is not for sale. However, according to McGrath, as the north London club seeks to thrash out new contracts for Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, there are no negotiations planned for the England international.
23-year-old Oxlade-Chamberlain has just 18 months left on his deal at the Emirates, and despite Arsène Wenger wanting to hold on to the youngster and with no contract talks are currently being planned, Wenger could see another of his brightest young prospects playing for a rival club.
Oxlade-Chamberlain will assess his options next month with Pep Guardiola said to be a huge fan of the player going back to the days when he lined up against Pep’s Bayern Munich side.
And with İlkay Gündoğan out for the season following his unfortunate cruciate ligament injury, Oxlade-Chamberlain could be used in a similar role or any number of positions – versatility being something Guardiola always values in a player.
It is reported that Oxlade-Chamberlain could double his £70,000-a-week wages at City. And the former Southampton man is enjoying one of his best seasons at the moment for Arsenal, though the issue has never been his ability but his consistency.
The winger has been attracting a lot of interest from big clubs this season with Manchester City being the latest in the hunt for the Ox.If Oxlade-Chamberlain is to move clubs, he must do so on the promise of regular football.
