Man City signing this €35m Serie A wall as Kompany’s successor would make them unbreachable at the back

Manchester City opinion: Should Guardiola make a move for Kostas Manolas?

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester City have taken a keen interest in Serie A star Kostas Manolas. The 27-year-old has had a rather uneventful season with AS Roma and given the club’s struggles, he has been linked with a move away.

The likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and even Juventus have all been linked to the centre-back. But it seems that with Vincent Kompany leaving, the Greek centre-back does seem like a good replacement.

Not to mention, his meagre release clause does make him a rather cheap choice, compared to a few others. The Cityzens have been linked with moves for Harry Maguire and even Matthijs de Ligt over the last few months.

It’s been an eventful time for the club, bidding a fitting farewell for club legend Vincent Kompany, which does leave them without a proper centre-back pairing. That means that the club has to spend again on a new centre-back.

However, adding someone like Maguire or even de Ligt would see Manchester City spend very heavily. That is not something they can do or even should do right now, given that the club should have other targets in mind.

A new central midfielder and maybe another striker to help Sergio Aguero in the summer window, not spending over the odds for a centre-back. It’s why a move for Kostas Manolas makes a lot of sense and his release clause will help.

The Greek star is a world-class centre-back. Fast, strong and confident on and off the ball, the Greece international epitomises just what Manchester City needs. While there might be questions about whether he can adjust to the Premier League, that should come with time.

But Kostas Manolas’ mentality and aggression will play a big part in helping him fit at the club. It’s just what Manchester City needs next season and Manolas is a class apart from either John Stones or Aymeric Laporte.

The AS Roma man is a classy centre-back and more importantly a solid man to have in the case of an emergency.

Conclusion

Manchester City need a few additions in the summer window and one of them should be Kostas Manolas. The 27-year-old will be able to make a big impact at the club and with time, he should help replace Vincent Kompany.
