Manchester City Women Player Ratings vs. Leicester: Khadija Shaw Brace Rescues Wasteful Leaders After Frustrating Display

Khadija Shaw’s late brace secured Manchester City an unconvincing 3-0 victory over resolute Leicester at the King Power Stadium, extending their WSL lead to six points. The Jamaica international was wasteful throughout before finally breaking through 16 minutes from time, with substitute Kerolin adding gloss with a stoppage-time third.
City dominated from the start but found Leicester’s defensive block impenetrable for 74 minutes. Shaw spurned multiple gilt-edged chances, hitting the side netting early and looping a header onto the roof of the net after the break. Vivianne Miedema was also repeatedly denied by inspired goalkeeper Janina Leitzig as City racked up 29 shots to Leicester’s two.
The breakthrough finally came when Shaw pounced on Celeste Boureille’s mistake to fire home. She added her second with a header in the 84th minute before Kerolin’s sublime finish in the 94th capped off City’s best-ever start to a WSL season.
Goalkeeper & Defence
Ayaka Yamashita (6/10): Had virtually nothing to do beyond passing to teammates. A training session for the Japanese keeper.
Kerstin Casparij (6/10): Never troubled defensively and got forward freely but didn’t significantly impact proceedings.
Jade Rose (6/10): The statistics of 29 shots to two tell the story. Precious little defending required.
Rebecca Knaak (7/10): Continues proving a handful in the air at both ends. Commanded the backline well.
Leila Ouahabi (7/10): Comfortable in possession and dealt with everything that came her way efficiently.
Midfield
Yui Hasegawa (6/10): Needed more style to her substance but played some nice touches to free teammates.
Laura Blindkilde Brown (6/10): Passing could have been quicker but stopped Leicester’s rare attacks with combative play.
Vivianne Miedema (7/10): Her first-half trickery came closest to unlocking Leicester’s dogged defence before her effectiveness waned.
Attack & Subs
Aoba Fujino (6/10): Ran at Leicester’s defence with wilful abandon but couldn’t bypass their low block.
Khadija Shaw (7/10): Missed a hatful before delivering when it mattered with two crucial goals. You only need a few seconds to have a successful game up front.
Lauren Hemp (6/10): Well shackled by Leicester’s doubled-up defence but assisted Shaw’s second.
Kerolin (8/10) ⭐: Added quality and dynamism off the bench. Got the crucial assist for Shaw’s opener before scoring a sublime late goal.
Andree Jeglertz’s side lacked creativity for long periods but his substitutions, particularly Kerolin, ultimately got the job done despite an unconvincing performance.

Tottenham Defender Ash Neville Joins Leicester City on One and a Half Year Deal as Club Legend Departs After Eight Seasons

Tottenham Hotspur defender Ash Neville has signed for Leicester City for an undisclosed fee, bringing an end to her eight year spell at Spurs.
The 32 year old full back has agreed a one and a half year contract with the Foxes holding an additional one year extension option.
Neville has made over 100 appearances for Tottenham in the top flight since their promotion to the WSL in 2018-19. She signed from Coventry United in 2017 and became the first Spurs player to make a century of WSL appearances, finishing with 115 league games and 191 appearances overall.
New Challenge Awaits Club Legend
Speaking to Foxes Hub, Neville explained her decision to move. “This is a new challenge, and I want to help the team put as many points on the board as possible. I’m hoping that the experience I have both on and off the pitch can help. Now is the right time for a new challenge and I’m looking forward to seeing what this new chapter will bring.”
The defender could face her former teammates on Sunday as the WSL resumes following the winter break. Leicester currently sit in the Championship after relegation last season but are targeting an immediate return to the top flight.
Spurs Pay Tribute to Pioneer
Tottenham managing director Andy Rogers paid tribute to Neville’s contribution. “Ash’s contribution to the club has been immense. She has been influential on our journey to establishing ourselves as a Women’s Super League team, and she departs as an undisputed club legend.”
Rogers added: “A true pioneer of the women’s game on and off the pitch, Ash has always shown love and care to her teammates, staff, and our supporters. Forever a member of the Spurs family.”

After two-and-a-half years, Janice Cayman departs Leicester City for PSV

Leicester City defender Janice Cayman has joined Dutch Eurojackpot Vrouwen Eredivisie club PSV on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee. The 37-year-old moves to The Netherlands after spending the last two and a half years with The Foxes, where she made 66 appearances in all competitions.
Cayman helped Leicester City further establish themselves in the Barclays Women’s Super League during her time at the club. However, the experienced defender has now taken up a new challenge by joining a PSV side that sit just three points off the league summit in this season’s Eredivisie.
Big Ambitions Drive Netherlands Move
Speaking to PSV’s official media team, Cayman explained her decision to join the Dutch club. “It is an honour to be able to play for PSV. There was mutual interest and then things can go very quickly. I think I add a lot of experience to the selection and can help young players. Just like PSV, I have big ambitions. I want to play European football and fight for the championship.”
The Belgian international’s wealth of experience will prove valuable for PSV as they chase down the league leaders. Her 66 appearances for Leicester demonstrated her consistency and ability to perform at WSL level despite her age.
Leicester Rebuild Continues
Further incomings and outgoings are likely at Leicester City before the transfer window closes at the end of January. The Foxes have already brought in Tottenham legend Ash Neville on a one and a half year deal as they rebuild their squad.
Cayman’s departure creates space for Leicester to continue reshaping their team as they look to mount another promotion challenge from the Championship. The club will hope their January business provides the platform for a strong second half of the season.

Leicester City Sign Swedish Midfielder Emma Jansson From FC Rosengard: All About Her Contract

Leicester City confirmed on January 5, 2026 that Emma Jansson has signed from FC Rosengard on a two and a half year contract through 2028.
The 29-year-old Swedish midfielder becomes the Foxes’ first January signing and arrives at King Power Stadium after three years in Sweden where she won two OBOS Damallsvenskan league titles and the Swedish Cup.
Jansson joins ahead of Leicester’s return to WSL action on January 11 against Tottenham Hotspur.
Swedish Cup Winner Arrives
Jansson brings proven Scandinavian pedigree to the Midlands after consecutive winning campaigns at Rosengard. She won Damallsvenskan titles in 2022 and 2024 while claiming Swedish Cup glory as well. The former Swedish youth international represented her country at Under 23 level and earned caps throughout her career.
Her three year stint at Rosengard saw consistent midfield performances combining work rate with technical quality. Jansson expressed excitement about joining Leicester, stating the WSL represented the pinnacle of women’s football globally.
Leicester’s January Activity
Jansson becomes Leicester’s opening recruitment move as the club targets midfield reinforcement heading toward relegation concerns.
The Foxes sit ninth in the WSL standings heading into the January restart. Further recruitment is expected throughout the month as Leicester look to strengthen depth across the squad. Jansson told Foxes Hub she would bring maximum effort to every performance and deliver consistent contribution for Leicester supporters.
Career Path and Experience
Jansson’s career included two spells at Hammarby IF plus appearances for Eskilstuna United DFF and KIF Orebro beyond her Rosengard tenure. The diverse Swedish club experience provides familiarity with different tactical systems and playing styles.
Her age at 29 offers both experience and years of remaining peak performance. Leicester gain an experienced midfielder capable of providing midfield stability and linking defensive and attacking phases effectively during their crucial January to May campaign fighting for WSL survival and domestic cup progression.
