Manchester City’s 21-goal superstar can beat Tottenham’s Kane to win the PL Golden Boot – agreed?

Sergio Aguero

Can Sergio Aguero beat Harry Kane to win the Golden Boot by the end of the season?

Sergio Aguero is nothing short of a modern-day Manchester City legend and based on the way he performed in their most recent game against Leicester City, he could be in the reckoning to win the Golden Boot this season. Although Harry Kane looks like the runaway winner with 23 goals under his belt already, Aguero seems to be catching up quite quickly.

After the performance against Leicester, he added 4 more goals to his tally, which now stands at 21. In fact, he is on par with Liverpool star Mohamed Salah now and although the race to win the boot initially seemed one-sided, the competition seems to be hotting up now.

Aguero has been a part of Manchester City right from the Roberto Mancini days and he continues to be a force to be reckoned with at the club. Although he was their primary striker for the longest time, the inclusion of Gabriel Jesus did appear to eat away at his game time.

Pep Guardiola did try using a two-striker formation on certain occasions but he ultimately seemed to revert to utilising the dynamic Jesus as the solitary striker with Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane on either wing.

While Aguero did see a significant reduction in game time, he took it in his stride. He provided Jesus with all the help and guidance and filled in for him whenever the player picked up an injury. He may have used sparingly by Guardiola but every single time that he has been on the field, Aguero has given us more than a glimpse as to why he is considered City’s best. His blistering pace, creativity and goalscoring exploits have excited and delighted the City faithful for almost a decade now and there seems to be no end to his impact for the club.

Considering the fact that he has spent far lesser time on the field than Kane or Salah, it is truly commendable that he is on par with them when it comes to goals. There is no undermining Kane or Salah but Aguero is always in a class of his own.

Nobody can beat him when it comes to combining experience with skill and at 29 years of age, he is playing some of the best football of his career. Whether people like to admit it or not, City have truly come a long way in establishing themselves in the Premier League and Aguero has played a major role in helping them put up a strong foundation.

His legacy will go on forever at the Etihad Stadium and if he continues playing this way, it might not be far-fetched to suggest that he could beat Kane to the Golden Boot by the end of the season.
