Liverpool Women Sign Scotland International on Loan From Tottenham Until End of Season as Winless Side Desperately Seek Firepower

Liverpool Women have signed Scotland international Martha Thomas on loan from Tottenham Hotspur until the end of the season. The experienced forward has played over 50 times for her country and has more than a century of WSL appearances, including spells with West Ham and Manchester United.
Thomas told Liverpoolfc.com: “It’s a really exciting time for me and I’m really excited to be here. I think it’s the right fit, right now in my career. Even though it’s a short loan, I’m really looking forward to be here and help this team climb the table where they deserve to be.”
Liverpool Need Thomas to Deliver Immediately
The signing comes at a crucial time for Liverpool, who remain winless through 12 WSL matches and sit rooted to the bottom of the table. Manager Gareth Taylor desperately needs attacking reinforcements, and Thomas represents a proven goalscorer at this level who should hit the ground running.
Thomas added: “Results are important and that’s how you get points on the table, but you look at Liverpool’s performances they have put in this season, I feel they have put strong performances in.” This is being kind to Liverpool, whose performances have been nowhere near good enough despite what the manager claims about deserving more.
Experienced Forward Must Make Immediate Impact
With over 100 WSL appearances to her name, Thomas brings the kind of experience Liverpool desperately lack in attack. The Scotland international knows what it takes to survive in this league, having fought relegation battles before during her time at West Ham.
Liverpool face a massive relegation scrap with only one team going down this season. They sit bottom with zero wins and time is running out. Thomas needs to deliver goals immediately if the Reds are to have any chance of survival.

Liverpool Slammed for Pathetic Response as Goalkeeper Handed Six Match Ban for Racist Comment Referencing Skin Colour

Liverpool Women have come under fire following their response to a six-match ban handed to goalkeeper Rafaela Borggrafe by the Football Association.
The German keeper, who joined from SC Freiburg over the summer, was found to have made a racist comment referencing skin colour that was overheard by staff and teammates during pre season while preparing for a squad photograph.

Borggrafe has already served five games of the suspension after being unavailable while the FA investigation was ongoing. She accepted the charge and has been ordered to undertake an education programme, with Liverpool conducting an internal review before referring the matter to the FA.
Taylor’s Blasé Comments Spark Outrage
Manager Gareth Taylor’s response has triggered widespread criticism online, with supporters from both Liverpool and rival clubs accusing the club of failing to take a strong enough stance. “The situation is the situation. The team and the club have acted in the appropriate way. I will say, it’s been dragged on a little bit. I think that’s been frustrating for everyone involved, particularly Rafa. But we’re happy now that it’s completed,” Taylor said.
This is frankly disgraceful. Sports reporter Beth Fisher remarked: “Pathetic by Liverpool, pathetic response by Taylor. Another day in football that racism is basically treated like some playground offence. Disgusting.” Another user added: “She should never play for the club again.”
Another Low Point in Disastrous Season
Liverpool’s summer of 2025 was littered with missteps from top to bottom. The decision to part ways with legendary manager Matt Beard required a significant war chest that never materialized. Instead, the club sold Olivia Smith to Arsenal for a world record £1 million fee that was barely reinvested.
The Borggrafe situation is a stark and deeply worrying illustration of that shortfall. Liverpool remain winless in the WSL through 12 matches, rooted to the bottom of the table.

Barcelona Recall Young Polish Defender From Liverpool on Loan

Barcelona have recalled 19 year old Polish international Emilia Szymczak from her loan spell at Liverpool.
The defender was originally set to spend the entire season at Anfield but will now return to Spain early due to an injury sustained during international duty over the winter break.
Liverpool confirmed the news through an official announcement on their club website. Szymczak will continue her rehabilitation at Barcelona rather than complete her temporary stint on Merseyside.
The young defender made limited impact during her time at the club, appearing just once as a substitute against Sheffield United in the Subway Women’s League Cup group stage.
Journey to the Reds
Szymczak began her career with Polish club Górnik Łęczna before Barcelona signed her in 2023. She progressed through their B team ranks and was part of the squad that won the Spanish Primera Federación in 2023/2024.
Despite her development in the Barcelona academy system, the forward-thinking club sent her to Liverpool to gain top level experience in the Barclays Women’s Super League. The loan was designed to accelerate her progression before potentially breaking into Barcelona’s first team.
Impact on Liverpool’s Season
Liverpool will continue their campaign without Szymczak as they travel to The Hive to face London Bees in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup fourth round on Sunday. The Reds are considered heavy favourites against their lower ranked opponents and will be looking to progress further in the competition. Her departure leaves Liverpool to focus on their remaining squad members for the second half of the season.
The recall demonstrates Barcelona’s commitment to monitoring their young talent and prioritising their rehabilitation when injuries occur during loan spells.
