Manchester United Opinion: How Does This Aerial Beast Sticker Fit Into The Team?

Radamel Falcao is gone and it seems that Robin Van Persie could be the next star player to leave Manchester United this season, the Red Devils are set to revamp their side as they look to build upon the fourth place finish they achieved during Louis Van Gaal’s first season in charge. The Dutch manager would be looking to increase his striker options and they could be in the race to sign a hard working player in Mario Mandzukic.

The Croatian hasn’t had the best of seasons at Atletico Madrid, even though it was expected he would do really well at the club since Diego Simeone employs a style of play which suits the striker. Mandzukic did score 20 goals in all competitions for the team from Madrid but with the likes of Fernando Torres and Antoine Greizmann, he could be seen as an excess for the club who have had troubles regarding finances over the years.

If Manchester United do sign him, one thing would be a certainty from the 29-year-old, he would be giving his 100% every game. Mandzukic’s game is built around him running about and pressing from the front, that has always been one of his hallmarks and he has been credited often because of his impeccable work rate.

The striker might not have the greatest of goal scoring records, but he does end up at the right place at the right time. During his time in Germany, he did have a slow start in his first season with Wolfsburg but he slowly learned the league and became a more prolific goal scorer and by the time he left Bayern Munich, he was averaging a goal every other game.

Mandzukic is an aerial beast (very good in the air) and a strong player who would do extremely well for a team that crosses the ball into the box, something that Manchester United are known for doing and with Memphis Depay already signed, they have got a great attacking option to provide those assists. Mandzukic or any other striker who does sign for Manchester United would be playing alongside the talisman that is Wayne Rooney.

The pair of Rooney and Mandzukic could actually work really well since Mandzukic could do the dirty work along with Rooney and constantly pressurise the opposition from the front and that would help United start a lot more attacks from higher up the ground. Plus, both strikers are built like tanks, which would certainly help them at least bully a lot of defenders and hopefully create a few chances for each other.

The only sticking point could be the price that United would have to pay for a striker who only has played one season at his new club, Mandzukic would have a large contract which would need to be covered by United and then the transfer fee but that shouldn’t be a problem for the Red Devils since they are expected to have a large transfer kitty this season.
