Manchester United Player Ratings Against Leicester: Schweinsteiger Shines, Rooney Flops Again

Bastian Schweinsteiger
Bastian Schweinsteiger

Jamie Vardy was the man who stole the headlines as Leicester City drew 1-1 with Manchester United with their in-form star striker scoring his 14th League goal of the season and pipping Ruud van Nistelrooy to become the sole holder of the record of scoring in most successive Premier League games (11).

Louis van Gaal’s men had the lion share of the possession but failed to create enough clear cut chances at the King Power Stadium, and it needed an excellent Bastian Schweinsteiger header to save the game for the side from Old Trafford.

Here are the Manchester United player ratings from a cracking game at the King Power Stadium.

David De Gea – 7

Excellent reaction save to deny Ulloa from close range in the second half. Could have done better with Vardy’s first half effort which resulted in the Leicester goal.

Paddy McNair – 6

Solid contribution at the back after coming back into the team for his first start in months.

Chris Smalling – 7

Kept the screws on Jamie Vardy in what was a terrific display from the United defender. His rise in form since United’s last visit to the King Power has been phenomenal.

Daley Blind – 7

Defensively sound, and his deliveries from set pieces last evening was top draw.

Matteo Darmian – 6

Culpable for the Vardy goal when the England man ran in behind him. Showed the desire to make forward surges from right back but his delivery let him down.

Ashley Young – 7

Constant menace for Leicester right back Danny Simpson. Delivery could have been much better.

Michael Carrick – 6

Passing was too safe and lacked penetration and invention.

Bastian Schweinsteiger – 7.5

All over the pitch – making runs, tracking back and making tackles – and add to that, a superb headed goal to level proceedings. Excellent performance.

Juan Mata – 6

Ineffective in a No.10 role. Had enough of the ball but created very little with it.

Wayne Rooney – 5

His first touch has been awful in recent matches. It was a struggle for the England skipper.

Anthony Martial – 6

His driving runs were few and far between. Seems to be getting less of the ball in a central role, and a lack of confidence in front of goal seems to be holding him back.

Memphis Depay – 5

Missed a glorious chance to clinch the game for United.
