Manchester United Player Ratings vs Norwich: Martial The Only Positive

Manchester United stumbled to their first home league defeat of the season as they lost 2-1 at Old Trafford to Norwich City. The pressure now heats up on Louis van Gaal as the call for his ouster is now beginning to gain voice. Here are the player ratings from a disappointing day at Old Trafford for the Red Devils.

David De Gea – 6

The Manchester United goalkeeper could do little with both the goals as his defence left him exposed.

Ashley Young – 6

Lacks the positional sense of a right back but more than makes up for with endeavor. Surged on from the right side in the second half as United chased the game.

Chris Smalling – 5

Looked panicky every time the Canaries surged forward. Given he has been top draw this season, this was a rare poor performance.

Phil Jones – 4

A very rusty and sluggish performance from the England man. He will be having nightmares of this day for a while.

Daley Blind – 5

Failed to react swiftly to the Norwich counter attacks.

Michael Carrick – 5

Usual control and tempo of passing was missing. Didn’t provide the usual defensive protection to the backline.

Marouane Fellaini – 5

Simply doesn’t work in a midfield two for a side like Manchester United, passing was slow and safe.

Juan Mata – 5

Saw a lot of the ball, but was wasteful in possession. Erratic distribution and uninventive passing were the features of the Spaniard’s afternoon.

Memphis Depay – 4

Poor service from the flanks, was a pain to watch at times.

Wayne Rooney – 5

Looked decent after coming back from a long injury layoff but seems to lack the control and finishing from inside the box.

Anthony Martial – 6

The newly announced Golden Boy gave the home side a fighting chance with a scruffy finish but it was not enough.

Subs

Herrera – 5

Failed to create any real attacking chance.
