Manchester United signing this £80m Serie A midfield engine would help Paul Pogba – here’s how

Why Signing Sergej Milinkovic-Savic Would Be A Good Move By Manchester United

Beating Manchester City to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal was clearly not enough for Manchester United it seems, as latest reports suggest that the Red Devils are likely to beat Pep Guardiola once more in order to acquire Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s signature.

The Lazio midfielder has been on the radar of quite a few Premier League clubs until now but United appear to be in pole position to land the highly-rated midfielder with a £80million price tag. La Liga giants Real Madrid were also keen on signing him but Jose Mourinho is understood to be extremely determined to bring Milinkovic-Savic to Old Trafford.

Now, United are in dire need of a new midfielder and there is absolutely no doubt about that. With Michael Carrick set to retire once the season draws to a close and the futures of Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba uncertain, the Portuguese gaffer will need to make some serious additions once the summer window commences.

Nemanja Matic has been phenomenal for United but they need reinforcements in that area and to that end, a move for Milinkovic-Savic does make sense.

At 22 years of age, the Lazio midfielder has worked wonders in the Serie A this season and it comes as no surprise that so many clubs have placed him on their list of targets. Having joined Lazio from Genk back in 2015, Milinkovic-Savic has gone on to become one of their key players and his controlled yet effective performances on the field have been truly delightful to watch.

Blessed with a penchant for creativity as well as defensive awareness, the young star is filled with a lot of potential, and given the need at United, he could prove to a solid purchase for the club.

Blessed abundantly with dribbling skills, Milinkovic-Savic is famous for his involvement in the final third and his passing accuracy is quite impressive as well. Signing him would allow Mourinho to utilise him in a three-man midfield formation alongside the likes of Matic and Pogba, provided the latter stays on with the club.

The Frenchman has been notorious for his lack of defensive powers but bringing Milinkovic-Savic into the mix could help Pogba stick to attacking duties alone.

Hence, given a choice, United must most definitely make a move for the Lazio midfielder. His price tag of £80million is certainly not a small amount but if that is what the Red Devils have to pay to bring in a player of his calibre, they must go for it. In the seasons to come, Milikovic-Savic could prove to be an excellent player for the club.
