Marco Silva joining hands with his former protege would be a big boost to Everton’s top-6 hopes

Why Everton should definitely make a move for Abdoulaye Doucoure

According to the Mirror, Everton manager Marco Silva is interested in luring Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure to Merseyside in January. The pair spent time together during the manager’s reign with the Hornets last season and Silva is a keen admirer of the all-action midfielder.

Doucoure has been one of the driving forces for Javi Gracia’s side this season. Everton too have made a wonderful start to life under Marco Silva.

The Toffees are currently battling for a Europa League spot this season and need to add further firepower when the transfer window reopens in January. Everton were in need of a central midfielder until they brought in Andre Gomes on loan from Barcelona in the summer.

But there are no assurances as to whether his move will become permanent. Silva has otherwise often gone with Tom Davies or Morgan Schneiderlin to partner Idrissa Gueye in the middle of the park, both of whom have failed to make a significant impact.

Doucoure, on the other hand, is an engine in the middle of the park whose constant work rate and never say die attitude make him a standout performer in the Watford team. He can play in a number of systems and flourished in Silva’s formation last season.

The 25-year-old is superb at defending and barely gives space for attackers to run at him. He is a bully in the middle of the park and loves to harry the opposition. What makes him an enticing prospect is Doucoure’s ability to surge forward and create chances for his teammates.

Doucoure has a pass success rate of 81.8% in the Premier League this season, providing 4 assists in 14 league appearances. He has also averaged 1.1 shots per game and is capable of chipping in with a few goals as well. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

With Idrissa Gueye guarding the team in the midfield, Doucoure will receive further freedom to play his game and pick the passes going forward. If Gueye does need support, Marco Silva can definitely count on the Frenchman to track back and help his side out as well.

Everton should definitely make a move for Abdoulaye Doucoure in January. Watford will surely be hesitant to part ways with their star performer but the Toffees should do everything in their power to land the midfielder. They have already snapped up Richarlison in the summer and should complete this move as well.
