Middlesbrough signing this veteran 30-year-old speedster would get them a perfect replacement for Downing – opinion

Middlesbrough opinion: Should Boro go for Kamil Grosicki?

In the end, Middlesbrough finished just wide off a playoff berth. It may have been just a one point difference between them and Derby County but for Boro, it proved to be worth even more.

Tony Pulis lost his job because of that one point and the club will lose four players once July comes around.

It is not good news but with the summer window open, it allows the club to adequately replace their stars. That may be easier said than done given that the likes of Andy Lonergan, Stewart Downing and John Mikel Obi have all left.

All four are quality players who did well for the club over the course of their contracts with Middlesbrough.

But now that Boro have let them go, it’s high time for the club to start looking forward to next season. That first means adding a new manager and then going about replacing/adding the players that the club needs to finish higher next season.

But with Stewart Downing leaving, it means that Middlesbrough not only loses a winger but they also lose a quality attacking outlet. For a Championship club, Boro are comparatively well off and can thus afford to replace Downing effectively.

One man who can do just that is Kamil Grosicki, and the Hartlepool Mail are reporting that the Riverside club are keen on a move. Currently at Hull City, the 30-year-old has done well for himself since joining the club but only just managed to find his touch.

The Polish international finished the season with 9 goals and 12 assists to his name, which does make it his most productive. However, combine that with his pace, guile and confidence out wide and Boro would get a bonafide replacement for Downing.

Moreover, Kamil Grosicki is far more experienced, with the 30-year-old playing well over 400 career games. This includes 75 goals scored and 89 assists to his name, flourishing in the Championship.

Middlesbrough need someone like that in their ranks and with Marvin Johnson struggling, Kamil Grosicki could be a valuable option alongside Marcus Tavernier.

The 20-year-old hit his stride this season and has seen his value shoot up over the last few months. But he needs a partner in crime and Grosicki is just the man for the job.

Conclusion

Kamil Grosicki is a talented star and has proven that this season, but with Middlesbrough losing Stewart Downing, the club needs a replacement. Few would come with as much as experience and attacking quality as Kamil Grosicki and it’s why he should be a top target.
