Why Manchester United can still manage to finish in the top 4 under Solskjaer
With 17 games of the premier league campaign already behind us, Manchester United sit at 6th place with 26 points. The difference between Man United and 10th-placed Watford is just 2 points. Unbelievably, the Red Devils are a whole 11 points behind 4th–placed Chelsea.
But let’s be honest; miracles like Leicester City winning the title clearly shows that here in the premier league, anything is possible and that nothing can be foretold.
Mourinho has brought this once great club to its knees. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – a legend in these parts, is the man tasked with the job of bringing back the Manchester United of yesteryear.
The main issue faced by the team under Mourinho was motivation. Jose’s ways just didn’t seem to be working on the United squad. It was as if the players didn’t care anymore and that’s extremely unnatural for people in this profession.
It was slowly becoming obvious that the dressing room didn’t back Jose anymore. The supremely talented likes of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial just weren’t performing up to the mark.
All of this means that Manchester United have succumbed to their worst start to a top-flight season since 1990/91 – before the inception of the Premier League as we know it now. A club with supporters in most countries around the world, success has always been a given for this great club.
Historically, United have been a free-flowing attacking side that could rip teams apart at will and loved to score late goals. Many of the greatest players to ever grace this sport wearing the famous red kit, have proudly walked out of the tunnel in the corner of the famous Stretford End.
With the new manager, Manchester United could be a side reborn. If he can get this obviously talented set of players to play with pride and determination again, then the top 4 is definitely within their grasp.
A solid run of wins will do any side a load of good and that’s exactly what this United side need to get things flowing. Once they start winning games, the confidence will slowly come back and it’s known that a confident player is capable of absolutely anything on the pitch.
Their competitors are bound to drop points sooner or later as the season begins to unravel with games coming in thick and fast. United themselves have a tough European fixture against French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

They need to start by beating Cardiff at the weekend and securing 3 points after a rather embarrassing defeat to rivals Liverpool last weekend cost Mourinho his job. Good times could be ahead at Manchester United and if they begin to play like a team again, with a bit of luck in their results, getting a top 4 finish is absolutely not a pipe dream.
