Newcastle fans react as Carroll could be on the bench against Brighton

Andy Carroll’s homecoming hasn’t gone to plan, with the English striker recovering from ankle injury.

The former West Ham and Liverpool forward hasn’t played for Newcastle United since joining them, however, the Daily Mail reports that the 30-year-old is set to feature on the bench against Brighton at the weekend.

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce will wait 24 hours before the match to make a decision on Carroll but it seems likely that the former England international will make his bow before the home crowd at the weekend.

A tough time for Carroll

The giant striker was one of the best talents when he was coming through the Newcastle ranks, but his record move to Liverpool didn’t actually work out too well.

The Englishman also had his injury woes during his spell with West Ham and only managed 32 games in all competitions for the Hammers over the past two years.

In fact, the 30-year-old has played 30+ games in a season just once out of the past seven, which isn’t a great record.

Andy Carroll

Carroll is still one of the best when it comes to aerial threat, and it will be interesting to see how Newcastle use the Englishman this season. The Magpies have a couple of quality wingers and have seen the likes of Miguel Almiron do well since joining last season.

Joelinton also looks to be a handful while Carroll can add additional physicality by coming off the bench. Newcastle have had their off-field issues too in the past and Bruce has a tough job on his hands to keep the Magpies in the Premier League.

Rafa Benitez left in the summer and Bruce already has one big win over Tottenham to show that his methods are working.

Many Newcastle fans were pleased to hear about Carroll’s possible return, while some believed it was a measure to bring the supporters back to St James’ Park.
