3 Players Who Newcastle Need To Sign if They Get Qualified For The Premier League

Newcastle United have been one of the best teams in the EFL Championship this season. After a 2-1 win over rivals Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this week, the Magpies returned to the top of the standings and have established themselves as the favourites for the title. And along with that, their promotion back to the Premier League is also all but sealed.

Manager Rafael Benitez has had arguably the best squad in the Championship at his disposal and the depth and quality has been on display with Newcastle churning out positive results, despite not playing that well in recent weeks. However, the competition in the Premier League will be at a different level altogether. The wily Spaniard will be very well aware of that fact and will already be planning for life in the English top-flight.

The summer transfer period will be extremely vital for the Toons if they are to stand a chance to compete in the Premier League. Strengthening in key areas and adding more quality to their ranks will be absolutely crucial for Newcastle. And owner Mike Ashley has shown signs that he is willing to back the manager in the transfer market. Considering all the facts and taking a good look at the Magpies’ squad, here we give you three signings that could provide Benitez and Newcastle a much-needed impetus coming into the top division:

Daniel Sturridge

The Englishman’s lack of first team opportunities at Anfield this season under Jurgen Klopp have cast shadows over his future with Liverpool and Benitez should look to swoop his former team for the striker.

Sturridge at 27, still has his best years ahead of him and is a proven goalscorer in the league and at the international level. Given the lack of a potent option to lead the line, apart from the brilliant Dwight Gayle, signing a striker will be highest of the priorities for Newcastle and the England international fits the bill perfectly.

His injury record could be of some concern, but if nurtured and looked after properly with the backing of the manager, Sturridge could turn out to be a prolific striker and could help them stay up in the league and finish strongly.

Charlie Taylor

The young Leeds United full-back is one of the most sought-after players in the Championship and given that his contract with the club is set to expire at the end of the season, makes him an even more attractive prospect.

The 23-year old left-back has been immense for Leeds this season and has shown great maturity at the back that belies his age. Tall, strong and athletic, Taylor combines his defensive duties very well with his attacking forays down the left-flank and looks ready to make the step up to the Premier League.

A chance to ply his trade in the top-division with a club of the stature of Newcastle under a successful manager like Rafa Benitez could prove a little too much to turn down for Taylor. Given that he will be available for free, he would prove to be a shrewd addition for the Magpies.

Helder Costa

The 23-year old winger has been a revelation with Wolverhampton Wanderers this season. The explosive winger is flexible enough to feature on either wings and has the pace and the technical ability to pose some serious questions to opposition full-backs. Costa, this term, has netted a very impressive 10 goals and has also chalked up six assists from 34 appearances across all competitions. And his ability from dead ball situations is an added bonus.

Newcastle have a good winger in Matt Ritchie, but with loanee Christian Atsu unlikely to stay beyond this season, Costa could prove to be a valuable addition to their ranks. He could prove to be a marked improvement on Yoann Gouffran and should be pursued by the Magpies ahead of the upcoming season.

Costa would surely impreove the Newcastle team next seaon.
