Newcastle United reviving interest in signing this gifted 28-year-old would provide them with a massive upgrade

Why Newcastle United should go all out to sign Huddersfield’s Aaron Mooy

Back in April, the Examiner Live had claimed that Newcastle United were interested in signing Huddersfield Town’s Aaron Mooy. The links have gone cold of late, however.

Aaron Mooy, 28, was one of the rare bright sparks for Huddersfield Town, who were relegated from the Premier League at the end of last season.

With less than a week to go until the summer transfer window for English clubs slams shut, the Australian international remains at relegated Terriers, seemingly no closer to a move back to the Premier League or elsewhere in Europe.

It’s baffling to see no Premier League outfit or any European club make a move such a technically-gifted player. Well, that could be an opportunity for Newcastle United to reignite their interest in Mooy and sign him before next week’s transfer deadline.

Newcastle have boosted their squad with the double signing of Allan Saint-Maximin and Jetro Willems. Willems has joined the Magpies on a one-year loan deal from Eintracht Frankfurt, with Steve Bruce’s side having the option to make the move permanent at the end of the loan spell.

The Tyneside-based club have also smashed their transfer record by signing Joelinton this summer, as well as snapping up midfielder Kyle Scott and goalkeeper Jake Turner on free transfers.

In a nutshell, Newcastle have enjoyed a really good summer transfer window under new manager Steve Bruce, who will aim for a top-half finish next year. But he still needs to address his midfield department, which has become a bit light following the exit of Mohamed Diame.

The Magpies need more depth in midfield and need to keep hold of the likes of Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden.

That being said, Bruce must bolster his midfield by handing Aaron Mooy a Premier League lifeline. Mooy is too good for the Championship and as he has proven himself in the Premier League, he could be a solid addition to Bruce’s side for the right price.

A central midfielder by trade, the Aussie is also adept at playing as a no.10, using his vision and incisive passing to create opportunities for his teammates.

Mooy is excellent in pulling the strings in midfield and delivering some standout performances. The 28-year-old’s ability to create goals from nothing, paired with the physicality to mix it in a highly-demanding league, is a rare combination.

All in all, he could make a real difference to this Newcastle side.

Verdict

The Australian midfielder will no doubt elevate the Magpies to the next level. Moreover, he can be the perfect Bruce player as he is direct in his approach and plays with a lot of intensity.
