No Mignolet, no problem – Liverpool have worked wonders on signing this experienced 32-year-old instead

Liverpool opinion: Liverpool should sign Adrian

According to a report by BBC, Liverpool have replaced the departed Simon Mignolet by signing West Ham’s Adrian. Mignolet recently signed for Club Brugge after spending six years at Anfield and it was necessary for Liverpool to have an able backup to Brazilian international Alisson Becker.

Alisson played every minute of every Champions League and Premier League game last season. While he’s perfectly capable of doing the same for another season, an injury can arise at any time and it’s important to have a good backup.

Mignolet’s time at Anfield was a difficult one, as he was often the scapegoat for bad results. On his day, the goalkeeper is capable of spectacular saves but also had the occasional howler in him.

Furthermore, Mignolet also wasn’t the best with the ball at his feet, which is demanded of most goalkeepers in top Premier League teams.

The Belgian’s confidence was destroyed a little and it’s important for a goalkeeper to have that, as it’s a very isolated position. Adrian, on the other hand, has joined as a free agent and this deal makes a lot of sense for Liverpool.

Adrian has a lot of experience and even ousted Joe Hart for the Hammers under David Moyes before Lukasz Fabianski made the No. 1 spot his own last season.

Regardless, Adrian is a fantastic shot-stopper and is also decent with the ball at his feet. He’s also a jolly character and is undoubtedly a great addition to the Liverpool dressing room.

Liverpool, unfortunately, lost out on penalties in the Community Shield to their domestic title rivals Manchester City and have a UEFA Super Cup game against Chelsea coming up.

The Reds will have a busy schedule all year, as they’ll be representing Europe in the Club World Cup as well, which is why rotation will be very important.

Liverpool also need to win their first Premier League title after coming ever so close last season, losing out by a single point. The small margins make a difference and maybe Adrian could be one of those small margins further in the season.

Conclusion

Liverpool haven’t flexed their muscles in the transfer window. They have a pretty solid squad that can compete in the big competitions and to that end, Adrian is a good addition to their neat squad.
