Manchester City opinion: Three replacements for Leroy Sane
He arrived from Schalke with a lot of pomp and celebration, responding in kind for Manchester City in his first season. Leroy Sane took his time to adjust but he managed to do that a lot faster than a few players, finishing his second season with 14 goals and 19 assists.
It’s was a phenomenal season for the young winger but a snub for Germany’s World Cup squad affected him more than anyone ever expected. Despite that, it saw Sane help Manchester City to a second consecutive Premier League title, finishing with 16 goals and 18 assists.

That is despite playing just 55% of the available minutes. Those are incredible numbers and Manchester City need to be aware.
It seems that Bayern Munich have taken notice and their interest has been noted by the Guardian. The Bavarian giants believe that the German is their heir to Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben. It gives the Cityzens a small problem but not one that cannot be solved.
That being said, here are three replacements for Leroy Sane:
Federico Chiesa
A lot like his father, Chiesa has done exceptionally well for a struggling Fiorentina this season and finished with 21 goals contributions in just 40 games.
Chiesa has an eye for goal and creativity in the final third that matches the German. Furthermore, his speed and size make him very hard to get off the ball.
But it’s his intelligence and maturity that really make him a brilliant prospect. It’s one of the many reasons why he’s worn the captain’s armband over the course of the season.
Thomas Lemar
Lemar only arrived last summer at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium and has struggled to make an impact in Diego Simeone’s rigid style of play. That has affected the 23-year-old all over the pitch but he might still be a good player for Manchester City.
Versatile and capable of playing across the front-line, Lemar has the potential to do great things. His attitude may let him down at times but as a former AS Monaco prospect, his work-ethic and creativity in the final third is simply incredible.
That’s why it’s a massive surprise why the move to Atletico Madrid hasn’t worked, but it does give Manchester City a chance. They need that injection of creativity if Sane leaves and his partnership with Bernardo Silva will prove to be lethal.
The two played together alongside Kylian Mbappe and Benjamin Mendy during Monaco’s title winning 2016/17 side, doing great things. It’s something that Guardiola should try and repeat, especially given the success that Silva’s had at the Etihad.
Jadon Sancho
Arguably the best player on this list to replace Sane, Sancho has had a down-right fantastic season with Borussia Dortmund. He may not have won the Bundesliga crown, but his form and creativity for the Signal Iduna Park side does make the move possible.
The’s former Manchester City man finished his season with an unparalleled 13 goals and 19 assists in all competitions, with 12 and 17 in the Bundesliga alone.

Saliba, Odegaard and White Doubts for Arsenal
The biggest concerns for Arsenal are William Saliba, Martin Ødegaard, and Ben White, who are all doubts after missing the weekend FA Cup victory over Mansfield Town. Manchester United Women Dealt Blow as Full-Back Ruled Out for at Least Four Weeks With Meniscus Issue
Manchester United Women will be without full back Anna Sandberg for at least another month after Marc Skinner confirmed the Swedish defender requires surgery on a meniscus problem. The Red Devils boss revealed the injury timeline ahead of Thursday’s Women’s Champions League second leg against Atletico Madrid at Leigh Sports Village.
Sandberg last played for United in the first leg against Atletico but was hauled off after just 49 minutes and replaced by Gabrielle George. The 22 year old has been a regular fixture in Skinner’s side this season, and her absence represents a significant blow to United’s defensive options during a crucial period.
Best Case Scenario is Four Weeks
Skinner revealed there needs to be a tidy up around Sandberg’s meniscus and provided a timeline for her potential return. “From the time frame we’ve been given, the best is four, the middle is six and obviously the worst case is eight. If it was eight, she would probably be back three or four games before the end of the season. We’re hopeful we can get it to six but won’t take any risk.”
The United boss emphasized they will not rush Sandberg back given her age and importance to the squad’s long term plans. This is smart management from Skinner, who cannot afford to jeopardize the defender’s career by rushing her rehabilitation.
Numbers Thinning at Left Back
With Sandberg ruled out and Fridolina Rolfo missing the first leg plus the London City Lionesses match, Skinner has a genuine headache at left back. Gabrielle George appears to be the only natural option available for Thursday’s clash, leaving United desperately thin in that position.
Ella Toone also remains out but could return for the crucial Manchester derby against City in March. United sits eight points behind the runaway leaders and needs to be perfect in their remaining fixtures while hoping City stumbles.
