Norwich should sign this 30-year-old veteran to reduce goalscoring burden off Pukki – could boost their promotion hopes

Why Norwich City should snap up Victor Anichebe to bolster their squad

Daniel Farke’s Norwich City are enjoying life in the Championship this season as they currently find themselves at the top of the table.

The Canaries endured a slow start with only a single win in six games that put Daniel Farke under tremendous pressure. But credits to Farke for transforming Norwich City, forging a culture off the field and building a team unity like never before. Certainly, there is a genuine belief amongst the fans that this could be the year for the club to achieve promotion back to the Premier League.

It won’t be wrong to term Norwich City as one of the ‘real contenders’ for top-flight promotion. And to keep that hunger and desire in the squad, it is a no-brainer for Farke to take a dip in the transfer market to add a couple of fresh faces in January. One area he should definitely try strengthening next month is the striking department, which is currently bossed by Teemu Pukki.

Teemu Pukki was signed by Norwich in the summer on a free transfer after his contract had expired at Brondby. The Finland striker has been a revelation under Farke, smashing goal after goal and recently scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner against Bolton.

And his form in the Championship this season clearly suggests that the Canaries picked up the bargain of the summer by bringing him to Carrow Road on a free.

Without Pukki’s goals, Norwich wouldn’t be sitting at the top of the Championship today. Truly, Norwich’s promotion hopes are highly pinned on keeping the Finland ace fit and injury free for the rest of the campaign. That said, it’s important Farke brings another striker to provide cover for his star man.

Free agent Victor Anichebe should definitely be considered by the Canaries. The 30-year-old joined the China League One side Beijing Enterprises last summer after leaving Sunderland. He had made 11 appearances, scoring twice for the Beijing club before the match-fixing dispute with the second-tier side last October.

Now available on a free transfer, Victor Anichebe would be a top addition for Norwich. He would offer the Canaries plenty of pace and power, while his presence in the opposition box would make him such a handful for the Championship defenders.

The Nigerian is an unknown quantity in the lower leagues of English Football, having mostly played in the Premier League with Everton and West Brom; something that certainly makes him an enticing option for Norwich.

At 30, Victor Anichebe is an experienced striker and still has a lot to offer, which makes him such a top option for Norwich to consider at the moment. Hence, Farke must do everything in his powers to sign the powerful Nigerian to bolster his team’s promotion hopes.
