“One step closer to destiny”: Some Liverpool fans go absolutely crazy after 4-1 thrashing of Porto + Match report

Porto vs Liverpool report – Liverpool Match Report

Liverpool weathered some storm early on to eventually beat Porto 4-1 at the Dragao and progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League with an aggregate score of 6-1.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk were the scorers for the Reds, who were once again clinical on the night to thwart what the home side threw at them.

The game began with Porto putting the Reds under huge pressure. Moussa Marega was causing problems with his runs in behind, but he wasn’t able to provide the finishing touch.

Around the 26th minute, Jurgen Klopp’s men worked themselves up the pitch and created a goal-scoring opportunity. Georginio Wijnaldum found Salah in the box, who in turn played a great ball towards Mane at the back post to score.

The goal was originally ruled out for offside but the correct decision was made when VAR came into action. Klopp made some changes at half-time in terms of the shape and also replaced Divock Origi with Firmino.

This switch allowed the away side to dominate the game and create chances on the break. One such counter was perfected in the 65th minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold ventured forward in space and produced an inch-perfect pass for Salah to score.

A few minutes later, Porto did score once when Eder Militao leapt the highest to head the ball home from the corner.

A Jordan Henderson cross dovetailed with a run from Firmino in the box in the 77th minute. The Brazilian then redirected the ball with his header towards the back of the net. Seven minutes later, Van Dijk scored to put icing on the cake.

All in all, it was a comfortable outing for Liverpool as they reached the semi-finals of the Champions League for the second year running. Barcelona awaits them now!

Here’s how some excited Reds fans reacted:
