Opinion: This 20-year-old talented starlet might just be the answer to West Brom’s defensive problems and Moore should get him in the summer

West Bromwich Opinion: Can Crawley Town starlet David Sesay be the answer to West Brom’s problems?

The Sun has reported that former Watford starlet David Sesay is on West Bromwich’s radar after a string of great performances for League Two side Crawley Town.

The 20-year-old joined the club over the summer from Watford on a two-year deal and has already made an impact, with 13 appearances to his name.

That has brought about a few scouts towards him, with the Sun further adding that Championship sides are on the lookout for the young full-back. The former Watford youth star has shown a steady development over the last six months or so.

Now with West Brom in the race, things could get complicated but the Baggies need a highly-rated youth prospect on their team-sheet.

Manager Darren Moore only has Everton loanee Mason Holgate, Manchester City loanee Tosin Adarabioyo and the 36-year-old Tyrone Mears as potential options at right-back, which is why adding Sesay is so important.

Unlike Holgate, the 20-year-old Crawley Town starlet could be the answer to Moore’s right-back issues this season. While Sesay is untested at a higher level, the youngster has the skill-set to survive in the Championship.

Not only is he defensively solid but he also has the stamina and athleticism to match his willingness to charge up and down the flanks.

David Sesay lacks what other full-backs have going forward but that can be developed over time. The West Brom manager has managed to get the best out of quite a few players, even improving the likes of Holgate, Rekeen Harper, Jonathan Leko and former Southampton man Jay Rodriguez.

There is no question in anybody’s mind that Moore can do the same for the former Watford starlet, if a move does take place.

Crawley Town need to convince David Sesay to stay another season. But at the moment, things are not going their way.

The Sun further adds that the 20-year-old full-back only signed a two-year deal with the club, meaning that his current contract will expire at the end of next season. This has further put the onus on Crawley Town but even more so, it gives West Bromwich hope for the future.

Thus, the Baggies should go all out to acquire the services of the promising Crawley Town starlet before other clubs start sniffing.
