Outstanding Evans, Brilliant Brooks – The best and the worst rated Sheffield United players vs Middlesbrough

Sheffield United 2-1 Middlesbrough: United Dig Out A Win To Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

Sheffield United grabbed a massive win to keep their hopes of the playoffs alive. They are now only three points off the playoff positions and are still in with a massive chance, with four games to go.

Middlesbrough, on the other hand, will be devastated by this result, relinquishing 8th place to Millwall and making their last four games incredibly tricky, with all of the teams under them doing their best to clamber above them.

Sheffield United Player Ratings

Simon Moore – 6/10

The 27-year-old goalkeeper didn’t have too much to do in this game. He made one save all match. His passing could’ve been better and looked a little shaky at times.

Jack O’Connell – 7/10

The centre-back had a good solid game, winning his tackles and also winning a lot of his aerial duels. Looked comfortable on the right-hand side of the back-three.

Jake Wright – 6/10

The experienced centre-back did not have a good game. He didn’t make a single tackle and neither did he win a single header the whole game. A bad day at the office.

Jake Wright

Chris Basham – 7/10

Had a decent game on the left-hand side of the central defence. He won five aerial challenges and made some good tackles to keep his team in the game.

Enda Stevens – 7.5/10

Stevens played well in the left wing-back position and looked very solid defensively. He broke up the play well and kept Adama Traore quiet, which is not an easy task.

George Baldock – 7.5/10

The wingback had a good game both defensively and offensively down the right-hand side. Offered width to the Blades.

John Lundstram – 6.5/10

Lundstram had an average game in the middle for Sheffield and did nothing stand-out.

Lee Evans – 9/10

Lee Evans was quite clearly the man of the match and had an absolutely outstanding game for the Blades. He found the space left behind by Grant Leadbitter after his red card and made full use of it.

David Brooks

John Fleck – 6.5/10

Another of the Sheffield midfielders who had an average evening. Broke up the play and won a lot of his aerial challenges but should’ve done better against 10 men.

David Brooks – 8/10

Had a very good game down the middle and combined with Lee Evans well for the second Sheffield goal. Looked a threat whenever he got the ball, driving towards the Middlesbrough defence.

Leon Clarke – 7/10

Clarke had a quiet game and should’ve taken advantage when Boro were reduced to 10 men. Will be looking to improve in his next game.

Substitutes

Mark Duffy – 6.5/10

Replaced Wright in the 73rd minute to give the Blades some legs in the final 20 minutes. Did well and ensured that his side went away with the three points.

Clayton Donaldson – 6/10

Came on in the 86th minute to replace David Brooks. Didn’t really have time to do anything of note.

Ryan Leonard – N/A

Came on in the 90th minute.
