Man United Player Ratings vs Everton: Here’s how the Red Devils fared
Manchester United produced their best attacking display of the season as they defeated Everton 2-1 at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.
A Paul Pogba rebound off a penalty save in the first half saw Manchester United take the lead after Idrissa Gueye had brought Anthony Martial down. United extended their lead after the break, thanks to a sublime curler from Martial.
Chris Smalling brought Richarlison down in the box and Everton were awarded a penalty about 15 minutes from time. Gylfi Sigurdsson slotted it home to halve the deficit, but it was a mere consolation as Jose Mourinho’s United held on to all three points.
Manchester United Player Ratings
David De Gea – 6/10
Made routine saves as Everton attacked in the early stages of the game. However, he was sent the wrong way by Sigurdsson for the converted penalty.
Ashley Young – 7/10
Made a crunching tackle on Bernard to clear a loose ball. He was aggressive going forward and defended well when Silva threw the attackers.
Chris Smalling – 4/10
Defended very well until a crazy tackle on Richarlison in the box gifted Everton a lifeline. Smalling was lucky to be on the pitch.
Victor Lindelof – 7/10
A solid performance if not spectacular, as Lindelof kept Richarlison at bay and passed the ball out from the back with confidence.
Luke Shaw – 5/10
He was a bit off-colour after a series of impressive performances. Shaw’s passing was not crisp and his positioning was not good either. Improved after the break though.
Nemanja Matic – 4/10
Matic’s poor form continued as he couldn’t offer the calming influence in the midfield which he is actually known for.
Paul Pogba – 7/10
Redeemed himself for his poor penalty by converting the rebound to give United the lead. Assisted Martial’s goal but his error allowed Everton to claw back into the game. A mixed bag from the Frenchman.
Fred – 6/10
Kept things ticking. His passing was decent and moved forward whenever he had the chance. Tried his luck from long-range a couple of times. A positive display from the Brazilian.
Juan Mata – 6/10
Should have done better from a free header when the score was at 0-0. Knitted the play very well, dropped deeper at times and showed quality on the ball.
Marcus Rashford – 5/10
Worked tirelessly but just couldn’t get himself into the game.
Anthony Martial – 9/10
Earned the penalty in the first half before scoring a fantastic curler after the break. Martial was a constant thorn for the Everton defenders due to his pace and dribbling skills. Should have converted a one-on-one chance in the stoppage time.
Substitutes
Romelu Lukaku – 3/10
