“Poor team choice”, “Just not our day”: Some Derby fans express frustration after 3-1 loss + Match report

Sheffield United 3-1 Derby County: Rams suffer away defeat on Boxing Day

Sheffield United beat fellow promotion hopefuls Derby County 3-1 at home to move to fourth place in the Championship table on Boxing Day. Billy Sharp, David McGoldrick and Leon Clarke scored the goals for the home team to seal three points. Harry Wilson did score a worldie to equalise things for the Rams.

United took the lead four minutes before half-time when Sharp guided Enda Stevens’ cross into the back of the net. Eight minutes after the break, Derby got a free-kick around the edge of the box and Wilson curled in a superb effort to level things up.

But 11 minutes later McGoldrick raced clear and dinked the ball over Scott Carson to put the Blades back in front. Clarke then sealed the win with a close-range header.

Chris Wilder’s men deserved the three points as they were the better team on the day. Billy Sharp was denied by a good save from Carson and the striker had another chance when he nodded the ball inches wide.

After the Wilson stunner, it was the home side who pushed for the winner and got what they deserved. Derby struggled a bit, especially in the second half.

This result puts them at 6th place in the table, two points clear of 7th-placed Birmingham City. Sheffield United are now at 4th place with 41 points. A good win for Wilder’s men but Frank Lampard’s should have done better in the game.
