Liverpool take on Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday as both these illustrious clubs fight for that coveted Champions League spot. The Top 4 is a target for both these fallen giants, but with Manchester City and Arsenal having picked up victories on Saturday, United’s trip to Anfield assumes the stature of a make-or-break game for both these sides.
Liverpool are unbeaten in the League since losing 3-0 to the Red Devils way back in December, and Brendan Rodgers’ side will prove to be a tough nut to crack on Sunday. There’s good news on the injury front with midfielder Lucas Leiva having returned to training and Mario Balotelli also expected to make the bench after missing the trip to Swansea due to illness.
Let’s take a look at the Liverpool team which could take the field at Anfield on Sunday.
Goalkeeper – Simon Mignolet
Another big test for a goalkeeper who has come to the fore in some of the bigger matches this season.
Defence – Can, Skrtel, Sakho.
No real reason for Brendan Rodgers to tinker with a defence that has done a decent job in recent games. Marouane Fellaini vs the volatile Martin Skrtel could be an interesting battle. Skrtel will be accompanied by Sakho and the impressive Emre Can on either sides.
Midfield – Sterling, Henderson, Allen, Moreno.
Steven Gerrard may well have to settle for a place on the bench as Rodgers is unlikely to upset the balance of a winning team just to accommodate the skipper.
Sterling will once again play as a wing back with Jordan Henderson expected to make his surging runs from his deeper role.
Forwards – Lallana, Coutinho, Sturridge.
Philippe Coutinho has been in red hot form in recent weeks and with Adam Lallana and the dangerous Daniel Sturridge supporting the Brazilian in attack, the United backline are expected to have their task cut out.
