A Dream Tottenham XI For 2017/18 Season
Tottenham Hotspur have had another excellent Premier League campaign, after last a brilliant last season that ended in heartbreak. Having finished third in the league table last time around, Mauricio Pochettino’s men are set to do one better and end the current campaign as the runners-up.
Tottenham were in the hunt for the title for most parts of the season, but a 1-0 loss to West Ham United a week back put an end to the challenge. Despite them finishing second and a disappointing European campaign, Spurs can look back on the season and be happy for the work that they have done and the progress that has been made.
Pochettino will have work to do in the summer transfer window though ahead of the next season, if they are to fare better both domestically and Europe. While the starting XI is very well balanced, it is the strength in depth that will be key for Tottenham. So, it is unlikely that we will see many changes in the line-up and here is how Tottenham may take the field next season:
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Manager: Mauricio Pochettino
Hugo Lloris (GK)
The club captain is an inspirational presence on the pitch and is one of the best in his positions in Europe. He will be the man between the sticks without a doubt.
Kieran Trippier (RB)
With the recent speculations surrounding Kyle Walker’s unrest which could lead to an exit and Kieran Trippier’s form on the rise, it is likely that the former Burnley man will start as the first-choice right-back next season.
Toby Alderweireld (CB)
His contract negotiations may have hit a roadblock of late, but Alderweireld is such an important player for the Spurs setup that they will not let him go and will reach an agreement soon. Will lead the backline.
Jan Vertonghen (CB)
Another accomplished performer, Vertonghen has forged an excellent partnership with his compatriot. Will be Alderweireld’s defensive partner.
Ben Davies (LB)
The Welshman has really stepped up in Danny Rose’s absence since January. And with the English full-back undergoing a surgery, he may be in for a lengthy layoff, meaning Davies could get a chance to start the next season as the first choice.
Victor Wanyama (CM)
The midfield destroyer has been an excellent addition having joined from Southampton last summer. Irremovable from the line-up.
Mousa Dembele (CM)
Has truly come into his own this campaign and is enjoying his best season in Tottenham colours. Will partner Wanyama in the middle of the park, with Eric Dier and Harry Winks acting as more than able backups.
Christian Eriksen (RW)
Has created the most number of goal-scoring chances by any player in the league this season and has chipped in with crucial goals regularly. No way he will be replaced in the line-up.
Dele Alli (CAM)
31 goals in two campaigns, two PFA Young Player of the Year awards and comparisons to one of the best midfielders to have ever played – Frank Lampard. Alli is going nowhere.
Wilfried Zaha (LW)
Only change that may (slim chances of happening), but may happen is Pochettino opting to play Wilfried Zaha on the left flank in place of Son Heung-min. The Ivorian has long been linked with a move to North London and he will provide a new flavour to the Tottenham attack. But will most likely be used as a rotation option with Son, who himself has been brilliant.
Harry Kane (ST)
No brainer here really. One of the most lethal marksman in Europe right now, Harry Kane has scored more than 20 league goals for the third season running now. While Pochettino could use some decent backup for the Englishman, Kane will be the undisputed starter as the focal point of the attack.
