Predicted Aston Villa Lineup To Face Sheffield Wednesday In The EFL Championship

Aston Villa will take on Sheffield Wednesday at the Hillsborough Stadium, in the EFL Championship on Saturday.

Villa are without a win in their last two Championship outings, as they were beaten 2-0 by Fulham this past weekend before being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Preston North End in their midweek game. Sitting third in the league standings with 60 points from 33 fixtures, Steve Bruce’s side will be hoping to put pressure on second-placed Cardiff City who are four points above them.

Team News

Jack Grealish is once again a doubt for the match, having sat out of the last two games for the Villans. Top goalscorer Albert Adomah also missed the two matches against Fulham and Preston due to a hamstring injury and could be sidelined again.

Winger Andre Green is nursing a hamstring problem. Robert Snodgrass was taken off ill against Preston and might be given a day off this weekend. Jonathan Kodjia (ankle) and goalkeeper Jed Steer (shoulder) remain long-term absentees.

Probable Aston Villa XI

Manager: Steve Bruce

Formation: 4-1-4-1

Sam Johnstone (GK)

The Manchester United loanee made a mistake in the previous game and will want to redeem himself with a strong performance on Saturday.

Axel Tuanzebe (RB)

Another loanee from Manchester United, the young defender has impressed in his two outings for the club and should once again start at right-back.

James Chester (CB)

A constant fixture in Bruce’s line-up, the 29-year-old James Chester should once again feature from the get-go at the Hillsborough.

John Terry

John Terry (CB)

The veteran defender should continue to partner Chester in the heart of the defence.

Alan Hutton (LB)

The Scottish defender has been used as the left-back by the manager ahead of Neil Taylor and that should remain unchanged for the weekend clash.

Mile Jedinak (CDM)

The Australian midfielder is a seasoned campaigner and brings the much-needed experience to the Villa midfield. Should start in front of the back four.

Ahmed Elmohamady (RM)

The Egyptian returned from injury in the midweek game and with both Adomah and Snodgrass being doubtful for the game, he should start on the right-hand side of the midfield.

Conor Hourihane (CAM)

In the middle of the park, it should be Conor Hourihane. The 27-year-old has scored 8 times and registered 2 assists this term and will be looking to make a telling contribution this weekend.

Conor Hourihane

Josh Onomah (CAM)

The loanee from Tottenham Hotspur started against Preston during the midweek and with Jack Grealish still not fit, he should feature from the kick-off once again.

Birkir Bjarnason (LM)

On the left flank, it will be Birkir Bjarnason, who is likely to be retained in the starting XI for the trip to Hillsborough.

Lewis Grabban (ST)

Leading the line for Villa against the Owls should be Bournemouth loanee Lewis Grabban. Scored the equaliser coming on from the bench against Preston and should be rewarded with a start.
