Predicted Leeds United Line-up To Face Ipswich Town In EFL Championship

Leeds United will look to get back to winning ways in the EFL Championship, when they take on Ipswich Town, at the Elland Road on Saturday.

The Whites sit on top of the league table with 17 points from 8 games and were unbeaten this season until last weekend, when they were beaten 1-0 away at Millwall. They come into the game on the back of a hard-fought win over Burnley (via penalties) in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night, and manager Thomas Christiansen will be hoping to get maximum points against Mick McCarthy’s side.

Team News

Central defensive duo of Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper have both recovered from their respective injuries and will be available for selection. Everton loanee Matthew Pennington too is expected to be ready after his injury on the opening day of the season. Caleb Ekuban remains the only absentee for Christiansen.

Here’s how Leeds could line up against Ipswich on Saturday:

Felix Wiedwald (GK)

The German was benched in favour of Andy Lonergan for the cup game, and while the stand-in keeper performed admirably, Wiedwald should return to the starting XI.

Luke Ayling (RB)

The Englishman is a constant fixture in the backline for the Whites. Started the midweek game at centre-back, but should return to the right-hand side of the defence.

Felix Wiedwald

Pontus Jansson (CB)

The giant Swede did not feature in the midweek game but is expected to be ready for Saturday’s encounter. Should come back into the line-up.

Liam Cooper (CB)

The club captain missed the last couple of games due to injury issues, but should walk back into the team to partner Jansson.

Vurnon Anita (LB)

The Dutchman has been impressive since his summer move to the Elland Road. Did have a poor outing against Millwall, but is likely to start at left-back.

Eunan O’Kane (CM)

The Irishman has been exemplary since the start of the season and will be reinstated to the playing XI in place of Mateusz Klich, who started the cup game.

Gianni Alioski

Kalvin Phillips (CM)

The 21-year old midfielder has started the campaign strongly and has been extremely impressive. Should partner O’Kane in the middle.

Gianni Alioski (RW)

The Macedonian has gone a bit off the boil post the international break, but has the ability to be the difference maker and should start ahead of Kemar Roofe.

Samu Saiz (CAM)

The Spaniard has been a huge hit since his arrival, scoring goals and creating chances in the attack. Should start the game, playing behind the striker.

Samu Saiz

Pablo Hernandez (LW)

The playmaker made the difference in the midweek game, coming on as a substitute. Should replace Stuart Dallas on the left flank.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga (ST)

The German forward has hit the ground running for Leeds and will want to continue in the same vein of form. Will come in for Jay-Ray Grot in the playing XI.
