Predicted Rangers XI to face FC Porto in the UEFA Europa League

Rangers set up a final showdown with Celtic in the final of the Scottish League Cup with a 3-0 hammering of Hearts in the semi-final at Hampden Park on Sunday, thanks to a goal from Filip Helander and a brace from Alfredo Morelos.

Steven Gerrard’s side are now set to turn their attention back to the UEFA Europa League, where they will play host to FC Porto on Matchday 4, having rescued a crucial point away from home against the Portuguese giants in their previous encounter.

The Gers are currently placed second in Group G, ahead of Porto on goal difference, and Thursday’s clash at Ibrox could go a long way towards deciding the fate of their qualification to the knockout rounds, as the Scottish giants to look to continue their six-game unbeaten streak in all competitions.

Team News

Allan McGregor returned to the eleven against Hearts on Sunday and he is expected to feature between the sticks against Porto on Matchday 4.

Ryan Kent and Brandon Barker also shrugged off minor problems to return the first-team fold, while Jordan Jones is still a doubt due to a shoulder problem and Jon Flanagan is ruled out with a hernia issue.

Predicted XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Allan McGregor (GK)

The veteran hardly had anything to do against Hearts in the League Cup semi-final but Rangers will be hoping for a repeat of his goalkeeping heroics against Porto on Matchday 3.

James Tavernier (RB)

The captain showed strong signs of rediscovering his best form against Hearts and he would have to be at the top of his game on Thursday.

Filip Helander (CB)

The Swede put up a monumental display against Porto away from home in Rangers’ previous Europa League game and the fans will be expecting something similar from him.

Connor Goldson (CB)

The former Brighton man has looked shaky at times in recent weeks but he has been a regular fixture at the back and should be amongst the starters on Thursday once again.

Borna Barisic (LB)

The Croatian set up Morelos’ goal with a fantastic early cross on Matchday 3 and he is currently high on confidence after a string of impressive all-round displays.

Ryan Jack (CM)

The ex-Aberdeen star has been in excellent form in recent weeks and Rangers will need him to put in a solid shift in the middle of the park once again to thwart Porto.

Steven Davis (RCM)

The veteran has really turned the clock back with his impressive run of form this season and there is no way he is going to be benched for this one.

Joe Aribo (LCM)

Glen Kamara had a quiet game against Hearts and it won’t be a surprise to see the Nigerian back in the playing eleven on Thursday against Porto.

Ryan Kent (RW)

The winger played 65 minutes of the League Cup semi-final but that was enough for him to run riot and Rangers will need him to be in the eleven for the Europa League tie.

Brandon Barker (LW)

The former Man City man didn’t come off the bench on Sunday but he could be drafted into the eleven to face Porto in place of Sheyi Ojo, who has lacked the end product.

Alfredo Morelos (ST)

The Colombian has been in scintillating goalscoring form for the Gers in all competitions and Gerrard will be hoping for him to fire on all cylinders once again.

Rangers vs Eintracht Frankfurt: Europa League Final Preview & Predicted Line-ups

Published

on

In what can be termed as the clash of the underdogs, Rangers take on Eintracht Frankfurt in the finals of the Europa League. Both teams, not favorites initially, have overcome many of the big teams to find themselves in Seville for the coveted clash.

Having finished second in the group behind Lyon, Rangers got through Braga and Leipzig on their way to the finals.

Frankfurt meanwhile had a much tougher run. Finishing group winners, they got through Real Betis, Barcelona and West Ham in an impressive run of results that culminated in a final.

With a trophy and direct Champions League football at stake, there is absolutely no doubt that both teams will want to be switched on as they look to win the coveted trophy.

Rangers Preview

Having lost the Scottish Premiership to eternal rivals Celtic, Rangers will want to prove a point and win a trophy by beating Frankfurt.

It will not be such an easy task however with Oliver Glasner’s side absolutely flying high. Rangers will have to be at their best to overcome the German side to the titl, with the latter aiming for their first European title since the UEFA Cup win in 1980.

Player to watch: James Tavernier

The Rangers captain has scored 7 goals and provided 2 assists from right back this season and will be crucial to the success of the Scottish giants.

His attacking involvement, making driving runs down the right should help Rangers’ cause in the final. Lundstram and Ryan Kent are also players to keep a lookout for, with the former’s pace and flair capable of causing Frankfurt constant menace.

Eintracht Frankfurt Preview

Unbeaten yet in the competition after playing 12 games, Frankfurt are undeniably the form team and firm favorites to win the final by beating Rangers, at least on paper.

Three consecutive wins against Barcelona and West Ham is no mean feat for the German side and they will be looking to continue doing the same against the Scottish giants.

Player to watch: Filip Kostic

The Serbian is undoubtedly the beating heart of the Frankfurt team. With 3 goals and 5 assists in the Europa League this season, he will be pivotal to the German club’s chances against Rangers.

In Lindstrom and Daichi Kamada, Glasner has two players who could cause trouble on both the flanks and help dominate the Scottish giants.

The bookies are favouring Frankfurt in tonight’s final, with  pricing them as slight favourites at 11/8, whereas Rangers currently sit at 15/8.

If Frankfurt are to come out on top tonight, you would imagine their star man Filip Kostic will be heavily involved. The winger has 3 goals and an impressive 5 assists in year years competitions, which is the most from any player. If you fancy him to reach 6 assists for the tournament, Betway has boosted Kostic to assist 1+ goals from 19/10 to 5/2.

Predicted Lineups:

Rangers (4-2-3-1) Allan McGregor, James Tavernier, Calvin Bassey, Connor Goldson, Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack, John Lundstram, Joseph Aribo, Glen Kamara, Ryan Kent, Fashion Sakala

Frankfurt (3-4-3): Kevin Trapp, Almany Toure, Evan Ndicka, Tuta, Ansgar Knauff, Djibril Sow, Sebastian Rode, Filip Kostic, Daichi Kamada, Jesper Lindstrom, Rafael Santos Borre.
