Premier League team of the year 2017

The Premier League has seen its fair share of ups and downs this year and it has been quite an interesting time. The motions seemed the same but it brought about a whole new set of emotions and controversies coupled with transfer window proceedings and what not. As far as performances go, we have been lucky enough to watch some of the best players fight it out on the field and as we get ready to bid adieu to 2017, let’s take a look at some of the best players that form the Premier League’s Team of the Year.

TOTY XI

David De Gea (GK)

There cannot be a best players list without De Gea’s name on it. Once again, he has proven to be rock-solid in goal for Manchester United and has been instrumental in many of their victories this season.

Kyle Walker (RB)

After his record-breaking move to join City, many expected him to falter. But the former Tottenham star has lived up to his potential and billing. The way he can effectively switch between defensive and attacking moves is truly one of his best qualities.

Cesar Azpilicueta (CB)

Azpilicueta has been phenomenal for Chelsea at the back. Interestingly, he has also forged a strong understanding with Alvaro Morata and the duo has made a strong impact on the club’s successes.

Cesar Azpilicueta

Jan Vertonghen (CB)

Vertonghen is a figure of stability at Tottenham and has been strong for the club even when Eric Dier had to slot in during Toby Alderweireld’s absence. He may be 30 years old but his stats look quite good. Having made an average of 1.9 tackles and 4.2 clearances, there is no surprise as to why Vertonghen is a key figure for Spurs at the back.

Marcos Alonso (LB)

This was a tough choice since Ashley Young also made a strong case to be selected. Ultimately, Alonso’s stats were better than Young’s. His defensive contributions have been top-notch for Chelsea and he has even scored 5 goals and 2 assists this season.

N’Golo Kante (CM)

Although Nemanja Matic was a strong contender, the fact remains that Kante’s stats and contributions have been far more vital on a consistent basis. Even in last season, the former Leicester City star played a crucial role in helping the Blues win the league.

David Silva (CM)

Silva keeps getting better as days go by. Having scored 5 goals and 10 assists already, the Manchester City has been one of Pep Guardiola’s main attacking threats. He has won 2 Man Of The Match awards so far and that is quite a feat considering how City are filled with talented attackers.

Kevin De Bruyne (CAM)

De Bruyne became the fastest midfielder to be involved in 50 goals and he has truly established himself as a world-class player this time. Having scored 7 goals so far, De Bruyne has also provided 12 assists. His numbers outweigh those of his competitors and it is safe to say that he has deservedly earned a spot for himself on this list.

Harry Kane

Mohamed Salah (RW)

Having scored 20 goals and 6 assists so far, one might even wonder as to why Salah does not play as a centre-forward. He has been in a prolific form not just for Liverpool but even for Egypt. Averaging 4 shots per game, Salah’s numbers have truly set him apart from his competitors.

Raheem Sterling (LW)

Despite considering names like Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez for this role, it was quite interesting to see that Sterling’s stats are better. He has scored 17 goals and 4 assists while averaging 2.6 shots per game. The youngster has even received the Man of The Match award 6 times so far.

Harry Kane (CF)

Even if some of the other names seem surprising, Kane’s name is something that many would have expected. He has scored 26 goals in 24 appearances for Spurs and has even provided 3 assists. Averaging a whopping 5.8 shots per game, Kane has even won the Man of The Match award 9 times already.
