Premier League win on the horizon? – Tottenham would pull off a shrewd piece of business by swapping Christian Eriksen for this on-loan playmaking wizard

James Rodriguez will be Spurs’ perfect alternative for Eriksen’s position

According to the Independent, Real Madrid are looking to offload James Rodriguez on a permanent deal which means he could be used as a make-weight in their potential purchase of Tottenham superstar Christian Eriksen, as suggested by AS.

Tottenham have slowly been transformed into a free-flowing, attacking side under the watchful guidance of Mauricio Pochettino. He has been able to make some smart signings which have helped Spurs develop into an English superpower.

They have slowly changed from a mid-table club to Champions League regulars within a short span of time. They have also found success in some big games. They currently find themselves 3rd with the leading pack of Liverpool and Manchester City well on their way making a title challenge near impossible.

While some key signings have been made by Spurs over the last many years, Christian Eriksen is arguably the one that has affected this side the most. They are quite dependent on Eriksen in the attacking phase to be the creative outlet that provides the finishers with chances.

According to AS, Real Madrid are keen on signing the Danish midfielder to try and solve the current blip in form. While this deal has been spoken about in the past as well, an interesting development could spice this up a little further.

With AS suggesting that Madrid are keen to bring the Dane to the Bernebau, it would only make sense for them to send James in the opposite direction. This would be the perfect situation for both clubs as finding a replacement for a player like Eriksen is not an easy task and they would be getting the ideal alternative in James.

His brilliant passing and shooting skills will only make the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane deadlier. Moreover, Madrid would get a massive discount on the money they need to pay for Eriksen with James going the other way as well.

James’ movement and composure on the ball will be crucial for Spurs in the midfield and he could utilize the wingers to make his trademark defence-splitting runs. His excellent finishing will also make good at the 2nd striker’s role.
