Predicted Liverpool Lineup vs Sion: Europa League

Danny Ings

Liverpool welcome travelling Sion to Anfield in Group B of the Europa League on Thursday as Brendan Rodgers and his men go in search of their first win of the tournament. With Sunday’s 225th Merseyside derby at Goodison on the horizon, Brendan Rodgers is expected to ring the changes. Captain Jordan Henderson, Christian Benteke, Roberto Firmino and Dejan Lovren all remain sidelined while Daniel Sturridge is likely to be rested for the visit of the Swiss Cup holders.

Goalkeeper: Adam Bogdan

Simon Mignolet started the Reds’ opening game in Group B away to Bordeaux, but Adam Bogdan had an impressive cup game against Carlisle and deserves a run in all the cup matches and not just the domestic ones. Bogdan will be hoping for a good showing in this game in order to get more playing time.

Defense: Toure, Joe Allen, Joe Gomez and Jordan Rossiter

In front of the Hungarian goalkeeper, we might see a back line consisting of Kolo Toure, who went off injured in the last Europa League clash but is back now fit and should come back into the side. The teenager Joe Gomez earned plenty of plaudits for the manner in which he started the season after being handed the left-back spot ahead of Alberto Moreno. Joe Allen is likely to start this match after two substitute performances following his return from injury while 18-year-old Rossiter certainly deserves another opportunity to showcase his exciting potential.

Midfield: Adam Lallana, Jordon Ibe, Alberto Moreno and Can

Alberto Moreno could start as the left wingback and Jordon Ibe doing the same on the opposite side. Adam Lallana after missing three matches with a thigh problem, marked his return in style with a classy individual goal away to Bordeaux and now should have his sights set on forcing his way into Rodgers’ plans for the derby. Can is expected to start in the middle of the midfield.

Attack: Origi and Ings

Two strikers up front has worked for Liverpool till now. Unfortunately, Origi hasn’t yet impressed this season, but against Sion at home, it might be his best chance to prove his potential. In all likelihood, Danny Ings will partner Origi upfront since Sturridge might be rested due to the big Merseyside Derby this weekend.
