Rangers beating Celtic to sign this PL outcast would get Gerrard a perfect McAuley replacement

Rangers opinion: Tomas Kalas is the ideal McAuley alternative

Tomas Kalas is a 25-year-old centre-half who currently plies his trade on loan at Bristol City from parent club Chelsea, with whom he has been since 2010, joining as a teenager from Sigma Olomouc.

Since then, he’s had loan spells in various European leagues but has yet to really make an impression on the Chelsea first-team picture. He’s still only made four first-team appearances for the Blues in his 9 years at the club.

Now 25, hoping for a miraculous call-up back at Stamford Bridge would certainly be ill-advised and this is the perfect opportunity to move on.

According to a recent report published by the Scottish Sun, Glasgow giants Celtic and Rangers are both watching Kalas at Bristol City with an idea to pursue a move for the defender in the summer.

It is also claimed in the report that Neil Lennon has an advantage in the race to sign the Czech international because he tops the Celts boss’ list of potential close-season signings amidst heavy interest from Steven Gerrard as well.

In the current situation though, Gerrard would do well to push for a move and bring the Blues man to Ibrox as he has the right attributes to come in cover for the experienced yet dwindling Gareth McAuley.

Despite his lack of Premier League football, the Scottish Premiership could prove to be the perfect pace for the player who is actually a very orthodox defender. Capable of positioning well in the box, he often gets the clearing touches on crosses delivered by the opposition.

He is a strong player who will be able to commandeer a defence line while his capabilities in terms of moving forward are quite vast too. He produces some excellent diagonal passes that can help bring the Rangers wingers into the game.

He tends to read play extremely well and his time with the training staff at Chelsea means that the chances of him mistiming a tackle are quite minimal. With 28 appearances in the Championship for Bristol City this season, he has performed well.

Conclusion

His addition will certainly be a boost to the Gers squad and will definitely bolster what looks a pretty flimsy defence.

He has the potential to do great things and Steven Gerrard’s Rangers could be the perfect place for the Czech international to display his immense talents.
