Rangers signing this 22-year-old Bundesliga starlet would get them a perfect backup for a key position – opinion

Rangers opinion – Gers linked with Jonathan Klinsmann – Good move?

According to a report in Scotsman (h/t Scottish Sun), Rangers have been linked with Hertha Berlin’s backup goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann – son of German great Jurgen Klinsmann.

It is claimed that the 22-year-old has an uneasy relationship with the Hertha goalkeeper coach, a person who accused the former USA U-23 stopper of having “too much American” in him and told him to work harder in training (h/t Scotsman).

The German side have other options in goal and with Klinsmann’s contract expiring this summer, he may well look to move elsewhere in search of first-team football (h/t Scotsman).

Here’s why Rangers shouldn’t hesitate in signing the free agent once the transfer window reopens:

Gers need a keeper for long-term

Allan McGregor is Rangers’ first-choice keeper and would stay like that for the next season. However, the two backups – Wes Foderingham and Jak Alnwick are set to leave the Ibrox this summer.

Hence, the Gers will be down to just McGregor and perhaps someone from the academy. Furthermore, the former is now 37 years old and might not start in goal for many seasons to come.

Thus, it makes sense for the club to look to sign a young goalkeeper this summer. Hence, Jonathan Klinsmann could be a great addition to the squad.

The 22-year-old is a quality young keeper who still can wait for his regular game time to come, partly because goalkeepers can play up to 37 or 38 years of age.

If he arrives at the Ibrox ahead of next season, he can be a perfect backup for McGregor. He can learn from the veteran and then be an ideal first-choice keeper for the Gers.
