Rangers signing this 30-year-old Liverpool star could be the route towards domestic success next season – opinion

Rangers opinion: Why Rangers should consider a move for Adam Lallana

The Liverpool Echo have linked Adam Lallana with a move to Rangers. The links have been shot down by manager Steven Gerrard but it is a move that makes a lot of sense. The former Southampton man has struggled to make a significant impact in the last 18 months, due to injuries.

Lallana has made just 16 appearances this season, with a large number of them coming off the bench. The last time the 30-year-old played consistently for Liverpool was way back in the 2016/17 season.

He finished that season with 31 Premier League appearances. The Englishman also contributed to 15 goals. Since then, Lallana has failed to net or create a goal for Liverpool despite showing his energy and stamina on a few occasions, this season.

He needs a fresh start and the Scottish Premiership could be a great avenue. For Rangers, this is the sort of move that Steven Gerrard needs to make in the near future and the fact that Lallana’s deal expires in 2020 makes the move less expensive.

The Gers need a creative midfielder and someone like Lallana ticks a lot of boxes. Despite being 30 years old, Lallana has a fantastic work rate, combined with creativity and an eye for a goal.

His finishing has deserted him recently but with proper game time, that should change. Adam Lallana would be a great addition to the Rangers squad, with his ability to break down even the most stubborn defences.

So far this season, the Gers have had to depend heavily on James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Scott Arfield to add some creativity.

Adam Lallana can easily slot into Steven Gerrard’s team-sheet if a move does occur. At the moment, the gap between Rangers and their rivals Celtic is 14 points, with the latter dominating the league for the last eight years.

The Gers need to add fresh legs and someone like Adam Lallana would be an ideal candidate for next season.

Conclusion

Lallana could be just what Rangers need to get one over rivals Celtic and maybe earn them their first league title since the 2010/11 season.
