Man United would be very wise to dodge this £50m English bullet and look elsewhere – here’s why

Manchester United opinion: Red Devils in for David Brooks – Good move?

According to a report in Sun, Manchester United is tracking the possibility of signing Bournemouth’s David Brooks during the course of this transfer window.

The Welshman is in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s wishlist, but it would be difficult to complete this move as Bournemouth are adamant that the player is not for sale. (h/t Sun)

Furthermore, if the Cherries are forced into something, they would demand at least £50m for this transfer to happen. (h/t Sun)

The 21-year-old is a boyhood United fan and was linked with a move to city rivals Manchester City in the past as well (h/t Sun). His performances in the Premier League last season were exceptional, which quite rightly attracted the interest of the Old Trafford faithful.

However, here’s why the Red Devils should stay away from spending a fortune on the youngster and focus on getting other deals done:

United have other areas to improve

After getting Juan Mata to sign a contract extension (h/t Sky Sports), it is clear that Manchester United are happy to have him in their squad. The Spaniard is one of those players who can operate in various positions across the frontline and could be useful.

So, spending a fortune on signing David Brooks, who in a way, resembles Mata, won’t be a good idea. The youngster has played only one season in the Premier League. Letting him play another at Bournemouth and allowing him to develop further would be sensible.

While that reasoning may be crushed to death in the social media, the fact that United are in the Europa League and have to improve their defence beams sharply.

For that reason, they should focus on spending this kind of money on buying quality defenders, rather than adding in their creative midfield department.

Conclusion

All in all, we can conclude by saying that Brooks is a quality player, who can make a difference at Old Trafford. But, Solskjaer’s men can do better than forking out a huge amount on the Welshman this summer.
