Report: Arsenal Consider This Netherlands International As Vermaelen Replacement

According to the latest reports, Arsenal are planning to make a January bid for the Netherlands international Bruno Martins Indi. He is currently playing for the Eredivisie side Feyenoord.

Reportedly, Arsenal are one of the long-term admirers of the defender’s talent. Other premier league club Everton are also closely monitoring the progress of the Feyenoord star. These reports also suggest that he is considered as a replacement for Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen who is currently struggling to get in to the starting lineup for Arsenal.

With world cup coming soon, Vermaelen would be desperate to get some game time under his belt to make sure his participation. So, there is a possibility that the Belgian defender may leave  Emirates in the coming transfer window. Serie A giants AC Milan are believed to be the favorites to sign Thomas Vermaelen.

Coming back to Bruno Martins, any bid over £8 million would be enough for the gunners to seal the deal. Former Arsenal star Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who now works as a coach at Feyenoord also hinted that Bruno Martins may move aboard when the right time comes.

He said,

“He is very good and strong. It is not for nothing he’s a first-choice here and with the Dutch national team. He will make the move to a foreign club in the long term. “When the time comes and he wants to leave, he will leave the club. We are very happy with him, but we know we cannot compete with the top European clubs.”
