Report: Celtic keeping tabs on Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow

Celtic FC news: Celtic are interested in Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow. (h/t Daily Record)

The 28-year-old has a contract with the club until 2020.

Player stats

An Aston Villa youth product, Darlow commenced his senior career with Nottingham Forrest.

He also had his loan spells at Newport County and Walsall before joining the Magpies in 2014.

The English shot-stopper was instrumental for Rafa Benitez in winning the 2016-17 Championship title. In the process, Darlow kept 13 clean sheets in 34 appearances.

However, the Former Notts player fell down the pecking order in the following years. As far this season is concerned, Darlow barely played any game other than a League Cup appearance.

Why the Celts should make a move for Darlow?

Darlow has grown weary over getting fewer opportunities in the first-team and Park Head would be a good destination for him in the upcoming season.

Scott Bain

It is difficult to beat the likes of Scott Bain, who has kept only 22 clean sheets this season, Darlow could ease the pressure off the Scottish keeper by providing cover.

The second-choice shot-stopper Dorus De Vries is in his twilight years and  Darlow could fill his void in the next season.
