Why Celtic should make a move for Dominic Iorfa in January
According to Birmingham Mail, Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Dominic Iorfa is planning to leave the club in the New Year. Dominic Iorfa has not featured for Wolves in any competitions this season, with manager Nuno Espirito Santo seemingly having reservations over using the defender.
The 23-year-old spent last season out on loan at Ipswich Town before returning to Molineux, where he has found no game time this season and has been training with the reserves squad.
Such has been his fall from grace that Iorfa has fallen completely out of favour since Nuno Espirito Santo’s arrival at Molineux in the summer of 2017. With Willy Boly, Conor Coady and Ryan Bennett being Wolves’ first-choice back-three, it seems unlikely that Iorfa would get a chance to impress this season.
With opportunities to play in the Premier League looking bleak for Iorfa at Wolves, Celtic must make a move for him in January.
Celtic have struggled defensively so far this campaign despite having some really good players in the squad. Even though Dedryck Boyata and Filip Benkovic have established themselves as the first-choice centre-back pairing for the Hoops lately, the duo’s long-term future is already in jeopardy.
Dedryck Boyata is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to agree on a new deal. Given that the Belgian is in the final year of his contract, the Hoops are considering cashing in on the defender in the January window rather than losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
On the other hand, Filip Benkovic is on loan from Leicester City but the towering Croat is not sure of whether he will be at Parkhead beyond January.
Celtic just cannot afford to lose their two pillars – Boyata and Benkovic, and hence, Rodgers should devise a plan to avoid a potential burnout of options in the defence. Rodgers would do a wise job by signing Dominic Iorfa in January.
Iorfa is a strong, powerful, aggressive and a no-nonsense defender who would add quality as well as depth to the squad. Primarily a centre-back, he can also operate at right-back and at 23, has a long way to go in his career.
Blessed with pace and power, the former Under-21 England international would push Mikael Lustig for a spot at right-back, while also providing cover in the heart of the defence.

Iorfa is young and still has plenty of time to fulfil his potential. Celtic must try luring him away from Molineux in January. As the defender is in the final year of his contract, he would also be available in a cut-price deal.
