Predicted Real Madrid Lineup To Face Manchester United In The UEFA Super Cup

Champions League holders Real Madrid will take on Europa League winners Manchester United in the UEFA Super Cup, on Tuesday, in Skojpe, Macedonia.

Zinedine Zidane’s side created history last season, by becoming the first ever club to retain the UEFA Champions League trophy, since it’s rebranding. The pre-season did not go as well as the manager would have hoped for as the club lost all their tour games in the United States, against United, Manchester City and Barcelona. Having narrowly beaten Sevilla last season in the Super Cup contest, Madrid will be intent on retaining the title and will have to pull up their socks ahead of the game.

Team News

There are no injury concerns for Zidane to worry about, although it remains to be seen if he decides to use star man Cristiano Ronaldo, after the talismanic Portuguese returned to training only on Saturday, following an extended break due to involvement in the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.

Here’s how the Galacticos could line up against former manager Jose Mourinho’s side.

Manager: Zinedine Zidane

Formation: 4-3-1-2

Keylor Navas (GK)

The Costa Rican international will start the game in between the sticks, ahead of Kiko Casilla. Will want to impress against United, given Madrid’s long-standing interest in David De Gea.

Dani Carvajal (RB)

Zidane will start the Spaniard as the right-back without a doubt, ahead of Achraf Hakimi. Carvajal was one of their most of consistent performers for the club last season and will hope to start off the season on a strong note.

Sergio Ramos

Raphael Varane (CB)

The centre of the defence is likely to be occupied by Zidane’s compatriot Raphael Varane. Will have his task cut out against the likes of Romelu Lukaku.

Sergio Ramos (CB)

Varane will be partnered in the heart of the defence by Madrid’s influential captain Sergio Ramos. He will have a pivotal role to play.

Marcelo (LB)

While the manager has shown great faith in summer signing Theo Hernandez so far, he could call on the more experienced and proven option in Marcelo for the encounter.

Casemiro (DM)

The Brazilian scored a penalty against United in the pre-season contest. Will look to keep the likes of Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera in check.

Toni Kroos

Luka Modric (RCM)

The Croatian has developed into one of the best in his position in the game. He is a sure starter in the middle of the park.

Toni Kroos (LCM)

Modric will be partnered by the German international in the centre of the pitch. He is the one who offers the calm and control in the midfield.

Isco (CAM)

The Spanish international became a vital part of the team during the closing stages of last season and could be given a start in the place of Gareth Bale.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Karim Benzema (ST)

The Frenchman will need to start the upcoming season on a strong note, and a goal or two on Tuesday will go a long way in helping him achieve that.

Cristiano Ronaldo (ST)

The Portuguese maverick may have returned late to training, but knowing him, he would want to play against his former side and is very much likely to start.

Here’s how Real Madrid could take the field:
