Scout report: Who Is This 21-Year-Old Defeder Manchester United Are After?

Manchester United don’t seem to be having luck when it comes to signing young players. They did lose out to Bayern Munich after the Bundesliga club signed long-term target Renato Sanches from under the noses of the Premier League club.

Though things could get better for the Old Trafford club as they seem to be looking at tither defence and not their attack. Louis van Gaal’s side has been linked with a move for Victor Lindelof. The Swedish footballer plays for Benfica and already have won a couple of Premeira Liga titles with the Portuguese club and also won the European U21 Championship with Sweden.

While Manchester United look to bolster their squad for the upcoming season is this the signing that can make them rock solid at the back? Or is this just another youngster who comes into a big club and ends up failing to make it into the first team?

Versatility is the key for Lindelof-

From the number of positions the 21-year-old can play, it isn’t a surprise that some of the bigger clubs which include Barcelona and Real Madrid are out looking for him. Lindelof can play either as a centre-back or in midfield, something that Tottenham fans would be well accustomed with regarding the switch in position of Eric Dier this season.

The Swede made only 27 appearances for Benfica this season and played just 360 minutes in the league season, which states that he just might not be ready for the big time on a regular basis. There is a lot of speculation that Manchester United have already bid 20 million pounds on the player, which is just 3 million shy of what Benfica want for the talented star.

Lindelof for all his abilities would not end up going into the first team, but would be gradually brought into the side. He would be a great option beside Chris Smalling and would also give a rest to Daley Blind who has often been hounded in defence by some of the more established strikers in the Premier League.

The Swedish star though would want to think twice before making the switch. At the moment he is in one of the best sides in Portugal and would also be playing UEFA Champions League football next season. He might also be playing in Euro 2016 in France and based on his performances in that competition, United or any other club could end up paying a much larger sum, if he does well.
